For context (a thread!): I left media in 2022 after more than 18 years in freelance/staff newsroom roles, working primarily as a critic, feature writer, business analyst, editor, and reporter. Heaviest focus areas included games, consumer tech, film/TV, geek culture, and web culture.

Good flag!! "Great in IMAX" is pretty much the only reason I want to go to a theater anymore unless there's a performative or themed component a la Alamo (I miss Rowdy Cats screenings)

You ever watch Band of Brothers? There's a really good episode later in the series (it's called Why We Fight if memory serves) where the story lands in a rural village just outside of a concentration camp as it's being liberated. It does a very good job of grappling with exactly this.

I hate my mental map. It perpetuates the kind of bias that we would all do well to get past. I recognize the need for it and it's hard to separate my fiery emotional response to the past 10 years from that cold logic but... yeah. Like I said, depressing. Happy Sunday!
