Let's shut down this fascist bastard's megaphone in the UK and EU!
gcarty80.bsky.social
Isn't anyone who's strongly enough opposed to movement of EU nationals (as opposed to Middle Eastern asylum seekers) that it would affect their vote, almost certainly going to be voting Reform regardless?
gcarty80.bsky.social
And to think that the Times was the only pro-Conservative daily newspaper to back Remain in 2016!

(While the only pro-Conservative _Sunday_ newspaper to back Remain was funnily enough the Mail on Sunday.)

Nigel Farage is not pitching towards an audience grounded around insulated homeowners on the Conservative auth-flank because Racism Protects Capitalism but because selfish insulated people are open to gambling with the state - they have good reason to think they won't suffer the consequences.

Guess that would explain his wealth then!
gcarty80.bsky.social
Which caste is he then?

(I can't imagine a Hindu as wealthy as he is comes from one of the lower castes!)
gcarty80.bsky.social
Hindu Islamophobia is kind of understandable, given that the Mughals (and earlier Muslim invaders of India) were at least as rapacious as the British Raj.

He ruled it out because joining the EU takes longer than a single parliament, and the EU won't be interested unless the Faragists are crushed first.

It's not as if other European countries don't have their own problems with the far right!
gcarty80.bsky.social
He should at least restore FoM for EU nationals: anyone who'd have enough of a problem with it that it would affect their vote, is almost certainly going to have voted Reform regardless.

Isn't Radical Right populism wrt energy prices basically "why deprive ourselves of cheap energy from fossil fuels, for the sake of potential climate change victims who are mostly in the Global South"?
gcarty80.bsky.social
I suspect the phrase "magic money tree" was specifically coined with that in mind!

During the heyday of eugenics it was actually more popular among black Americans (such as WEB Du Bois) than white Americans, as the opposition then was heavily Catholic.

It was only after it became generally unpopular that it became associated with white supremacism.

I sometimes suspected that MAGA were anti-Ukraine because they didn't want the 21st century's equivalents of Hitler and Tojo defeated until _after_ they had reduced Europe and Asia to ruins.

Shouldn't we be calling it _Babyn_ Yar now?

"Tommy Robinson" was not an arbitrary moniker: the original was a notorious Luton football hooligan.

AFAIK he's being funded by Islamophobic US millionaires, most of all Robert J Shillman.

I didn't say that the NHS is not _a_ reason for other parts of the electorate to vote Labour, but rather that it is essentially the _only_ reason for retired homeowners to vote Labour.

Doesn't the economics of shipping mean that island countries tend to be ultra-centralized, with Dublin, Tokyo and Taipei being even more dominant over their respective countries than London?
gcarty80.bsky.social
More precisely wasn't the focus group run by the Lib Dems as they sought to discover why so many of their voters had deserted them to UKIP?

I suspect they were mostly "plague on both your houses" voters who were more anti-Tory and anti-Labour than pro-Lib Dem.

I don't think they so much believe that _immigrants_ made their lives worse as that _change_ made their lives worse, and non-white faces are a clear symbol of change as far as they're concerned.

Distributing prosperity across Germany is relatively easy as it's at the centre of Europe, and it still has an AfD problem in the left-behind ex-DDR.

By contrast the UK is an island state on the edge of Europe, where the free market would concentrate everything into the capital.
gcarty80.bsky.social
To what extent is the UK system of governance unbalanced because it's the only way to stop the free market from concentrating everything in London and South East England?
gcarty80.bsky.social
Don't a lot of these voters still need the NHS though, which a Reform government might well abolish?

(And note that pensioners get free healthcare even in the US!)

In many poorer Red Wall type places total "reactionary" vote (CON + REF) exceeded total "progressive" vote (LAB + LD + GRN) but Labour still won because almost no-one voted LD or GRN, but the reactionaries were more evenly split between CON and REF.

If REF gobbles up CON then LAB is in big trouble.

How much is Labour's NHS fetishism down not just to the fact that the NHS is Attlee's main surviving legacy, but also to the fact that it is the one thing that _would_ give older homeowners a positive reason to vote Labour?
