Just finished watching the excellent t Trespasses on Channel 4. A hard watch at times as a reminder of growing up in the country - maybe it has taken us till now to be able to tell these stories. I loved the cars - we had a red Allegro.

Cracking game in Edinburgh - can Scotland finally do it?

Interestingly (?) - huge cheers from the green shirted watchers here for Scotland’s try - Scots fan who dislike Ireland so much might take note

Great rugby weekend in Dublin - Ireland poor first half but come good in the second - now watching Scotland v NZ, a comfortable seat, multiple TVs and the Guinness is only €7 a pint

Far better second half from Ireland today - subs definitely helped. Both 10s contributed - at the moment good to have them both offering something different. Ireland still a work in progress trying to get new blood in the team #IREvJAP

Ireland disappointing after a good start - lineout struggled and too many penalties but also not enough attacking threat - key men missing maybe too
A huge Irish performance ruined by possibly one of the worst officiating decisions ever recorded in professional sports.

Highlighting the huge problems in Rugby Union with officials and their subjective implementation of laws of the game.

Should have been a highlight was a instead a disgrace.

I always read English papers to understand Ireland because they've always been so good on the subject. They never shirk research either - I understand they have been even know to google a few things about the country from time to time.
Exactly what we need at the head of a European country at the moment.

“She also claimed that NATO was partly responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine and compared recent German defence spending rises to Nazi rearmament in the 1930s.”

The thing no one asks about Jenrick’s comment is how many of the non white faces were English born and bred?

The focus on nationalism as a unifying factor is complicated. The English traditionally think British is the same thing. Starmer references “4 great nations” then talks about the 3 that are and ignores the 4th. He’s right ‘though to call out “othering” as a key part of the problem …but the flags?

Anecdotally friends are buying Covid tests and say they want to know so they don’t infect others. We don’t test for ‘flu, which, presumably, must be far more dangerous given we vaccinate at 65 for ‘flu but as late as 75 for Covid. Thoughts medical friends/others?

Three thoughts on the #RyderCup today - delighted for Shane Lowry; brilliant fightback from the US to make a match of it; as terrible as the crowd behaviour was the spirit between the players at the end of their games should be an example to follow
