Writer of the Weird, SF, and haunted streets. Too much psychogeography. Not enough noir.

Some margin notes which turned into a longish piece in which I draw a wobbly, sometimes thin, line between Virginia Woolf, Patricia Highsmith, Dennis Lehane, Gillian Flynn, Old Man Burroughs, Kathy Acker and Jeff Vandermeer. The line starts here.

Reubens decides he wants to see what young people do and ends up in Vauxhall... Spies, Joseph Conrad, George Sand gender fluidity and throwing away a girl's phone number.

I'm still writing, despite all that (gestures toward the world)

Reubens and his heroic assistant visit an old friend south of the river. They take drugs.

Do you want to know more about #weirdlit? Neither did I.
But then, I met this guy in a pub in London, and boy did he set me right.

I didn't write this. I met this guy in a pub way back when and I just wrote down what he said. It looks legit but this guy was like totes unreliable narrator.

Reintroducing myself to #BookSky: I'm Gabriel, serializing weird fiction about London's hauntings and subterranean spirits.
In "Slouching" a narrator documents his friend Reubens' project to decode the city. New chapters weekly (ish): slouchingtowardsbeckenham.substack.com

As I threatened previously I've started the blog. Its mainly old character sketches for novels and short stories which I have re-arranged using a (to me) interesting framework. (HT Robert Bolano).

Anyway, here we go.

After endless procrastination, I've finally started writing again. As an outsider (in several ways), I'm probably the wrong person to map British literature, but here we are. Gatekeepers, gate-crashers, authenticity police, authenticity criminals, humans, bots... and occasionally, actual books.
