My dad is visiting and seems to now be a commited Sheffield United fan, which for a man not known for his command of metaphor seems extremely fucking metaphorical (for some reason, despite foresaking most everything else about the city, I remain an Owl in exile)

Speaking as someone who very occasionally has to write about science diplomacy, I wonder if Pugwash ever regret that in the UK their name more readily brings to mind Cut-Throat Jake and not nuclear disarmament

Having had a taste of this (about 10 years ago a fella passing through our local tube station nearly had his head sawn off with a fucking breadknife) I can categorically say seeing armed plod at the station daily for the following two weeks did not, in fact, reassure me www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I'm not sure "admire" is the right word but Cologne Airport's apparent quest to find all the possible ways in which it can be shit is certainly relentless, I'll give it that

Funny how literally how all the fucking studies out there are for median 8 week treatment duration, it's almost like they know what they'll find out if they get the funding to work out how to do a decent protocol for those on a multi-year SSRI regime isn't it www.bbc.com/news/article...

Pondering if I have sufficiently little self respect to be willing to carry a plate full of just new potatoes through a full airport lounge to where I'm seated (I think we know the answer to this)

I asked Copilot why the fuck it didn't put all the things I told it to put in a comma separated list (it gave me 250 out of 589 items) and it turns out you have to specify "look at the whole list and not just some of it". Thanks for that Mythomanic Clippy

Facilities department at work far too relaxed for my taste regarding the possibility of a hornet infestation. Went into a meeting room to be met with a wasp the size of a fucking dog and they were like, yeah, there must be a nest somewhere and grabbed a tin of Raid. No! Nuke it from fucking orbit!

I am now on my fourth leg of a journey home which has expanded to a five hour tour of the Midlands. Fortunately I am now used to this journey taking, for various reasons, anywhere between the published 2 hours 15 minutes and 11 hours and restrict my thoughts to my plans for the Delay Repay cash

Watching IT remote on to my laptop while I'm working from home to install a software package, and then seeing their mouse pointer pause as they go "wtf is this" at their unusually wide virtual window (I have a widescreen monitor, for Maximum Spreadsheet) is one of my few remaining sources of joy
