A Luna split single / The Squid and The Whale / Galaxie 500's "Today" and "On Fire" release anniversaries + more

It seems the only versions of this on YouTube are really low res, so this is a better quality version of this lovely performance Dean & Britta did for La Blo...

I already posted about the CD release of the soundtrack of The Squid and the Whale a couple of years ago and might have considered the film covered by that except that while writing that post I commented on how little actual Dean and Britta was on it. Britta, on the mailing list in 2005, assured us that there was more of their music in the film:

So how did a beautifully other-worldly band get named after such a worldly object?

This split single was released as being a tribute to Jonathan Richman and had Luna doing a cover of Dance With Me on one side and post-Feelies band Wake Ooloo covering Astral Plane on the flip.

This is a CD that came with the VHS I posted about earlier and a couple of posters. It contains studio outtakes, or unedited studio takes most of which has now been released, either on the first Uncollected or the more recent Uncollected Noise New York releases. Previously I had most/all of this on a cassette.

Whilst going through my cassettes preparing the next few posts for the my record collection series of posts I came across a recording that I had both forgotten I had, and had never digitised. This is an audience recording of Luna’s set at The Forum in London while on tour with The Velvet Underground.

Magic Hour’s second release, just ahead of their first album, came out on Ché Records in 1994 and contained, on the a-side, a couple of tracks from Magic Hour’s first albun No Excess is Absurd After Tomorrow and World of One, which was only on the CD versions of the album. On the b-side is a fifteen minute version of Permanent Green Light, originally released by NY psych-rock band The Godz on their second album.

Back in 2012, Lori got in touch with me and over the course of a few weeks sent me some absolutely lovely Galaxie 500 stuff - some of which I wrote about in a previous post in this series. A few weeks later this CDR of Galaxie 500’s show at Subterania in London in 1989 arrived.

This lovely lathe cut 8” single by Dean & Britta was released as a gift to PIAPTK’s Patreon supporters although a few copies turned up in Dean & Britta’s online store. I was hoping Dean was going to bring some copies to the UK on his recent tour but unfortunately not, so I asked if he could send me a copy… which of course he did! It arrived last week…
