My father told me yesterday, that his friend a medical prof at UofM says it looks like advanced heart failure. And the ankles and the bruising are a result of (I forget the name) a very strong blood pressure med. —I, personally, have no idea.

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

“The antihero Ozymandias, the anticrhist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution - eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes is represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world…”

Replicable is impossible because it was unique. Relevant, high-concept, for adults, absolutely. I don’t know who the next Karen Berger is, but that’s the key hire. Giving the right person enough room to fail a couple at bats and know their job is semi-safe is tough in media. But fingers crossed

A good friend of mine from high-school is his wife, and a life-long best friend is (one of?) his lawyer. I’ve never met him. But, on a twitter thread, I asked him to pass a hello along to his wife. He responded, she said “Jay! No way, he was a punker!” And lots of people had comments.
