and GOOD: how much I enjoyed it. Because horror movies don't need to be SCARY or ICKY to be GOOD. It helps though.

...and I made a chart!

We've got [REC], Silence of the Lambs, Evil Dead, and Dawn of the Dead to round out this week. 🥰 Come enjoy horror with me.
I'm scoring my watches on three sets of criteria:

SCARY: how scary the film is! And I'm trying to set the mood for all of these, I'm watching them all at night with the lights off.

ICKY: How ICKY, usually a measure of how much I look away / cringe / find something unsettling
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

I, Meilin, am doing a WEEN MOVIE MARATHON, where I torture myself out of doomscrolling by watching a new horror film every night, based of a random list I found online literally on October 1st because I am just impulsive like that.

Today marks the halfway point.
#15 - Låt den rätte komma in / Let the Right One In (2008)

A hauntingly beautiful film that blends classic vampire lore, modern life, and romance into one impressive, snow sparkled, package.

This isn't my first watch, but I should watch it more often. It's really just an beautiful film.
The top half of the poster features the silhouette of a young girl, obscured behind a glass; a small window featuring a young boy is placed in the center of her. The bottom half of the poster shows a man hanging upside down in a dark forest with a snow-covered ground.
2 Spoopy/10 - Eli, desperate to feed, leaps on a puddle of Oskar's blood and look monstrous...
1 ickie squckie/10 - So much tell, but don't show.
10 GOOD/10 - It is obvious how much care went into adapting this from the book to the screen, every shot is a detailed masterpiece.
Of course, highlight where highlight is due, the scene where Oskar, high on power, taunts Eli by refusing to 'let them in' to his apartment - until Eli steps through the door and begins to hemorrhage blood from everywhere.

If you've seen MINGON, it's the bathtub scene but 6x more beautifully sad.
The scenes are slowly painted through the snow, and dark. The music is delicate. The audio - the AUDIO - is asmr before asmr was a thing.

All of this culminates in some of the best vampire-to-screen lore out there. Oskar may dream of revenge, but does Eli dream of humanity...

Time to order myself a fleece hoodie that goes to the floor...
✅Adorable MC with three functioning braincells

✅Mission bound boyfriend

✅Oppressive sci-fi future on the brink

✅Diverse and interesting supporting cast

It's not AS dense, it's got a lot of ground to cover because it's so short, but it's definitely worth a library check out!
Took me a little bit longer than usual to read a single novel (but I am watching a movie every night this month 😂😂) and OH, how lovely. Reminds me a little of Little Mushroom. A-Ka and An Zhe would be very good friends.
Okay getting back to escaping to my car at lunchtime. New book time! My first Feitan novel. :3
Gu Yun went through and liked a bunch of my posts and hehehehehe thank you yifu that made me giggle 🥰
4 Spoopy/10 - The first 45m are genuinely terrifying.
6 ickie squckie/10 - I looked away. They had to shove a bone back in a leg. There was A BLOOD POOL (No Wen Ning)
7 GOOD/10 - Enjoyable, scary, but I think falls a bit thin near the end, and has some pretty nasty plot hiccups. Still good.
husband.

Creative use of claustrophobic sets do a fantastic job bringing together the charm of our Laura Croft Sleepover Team, but by the time we're slaughtering baddies it's shout at the screen silly time.

The ending is open, and horrible, and ruined by a sequel (Hey, I do my reading.)
for the remaining 1hr 30m runtime. Our main character, Sarah, experiences some actual legit trauma and her girlfriends decide CAVING??? was the best way to reconnect.

And all the time Sarah is busy hallucinating her dead daughter while she puts her trust in the whore sleeping with her (now dead)
#14 The Descent (2005)

I have read enough about the Nutty Putty Cave Incident to NEVER GO NEAR A CAVE EVER EVER EVER, so pre-terrified, here we are with The Descent.

The first ten minutes are the happiest you'll be during this film, and then never experience another positive emotion
Poster for The Descent, featuring five women in the shape of a human skull in front of a light. The 'head' figure is crying out.
Savage down~

Also my mommy thinks I write the best movie reviews and wants to know why I don't post them online and become very rich.

Your daughter is a little terrible gremlin who likes when the boys do kissies, when the girls do kissies, and when the monsters do kissies. And we do not look at her socials.
4 Spoopy/10 - This is a BUSY movie. You will forget something, and it will be scary!!!
4 ickie squckie/10 - Forgot the face scene. Goodbye dinner.
8 GOOD/10 - A classic WEEN treat. It's a little bumpy sometimes, but a favorite none the less.
are still pretty spooky, and, I must have blocked out some of this because i 100% forgot the face scene🤢. Mom and dad bickering on who punishes the kids? The whole family screaming in panic? Throwing the TV out of the hotel room? So very 'this could happen'.
#13 - Poltergeist (1982)

I've been copy/pasting all these reviews to my mom and she's gonna love this one, lol, but Poltergeist is so much how my family would deal with the supernatural, plus we're in the era of everyone looks like my dad! Woohoo! For a movie made in the 80s, THE BEAST and ghosts
Poster for the film Poltergeist, featuring a small child in front of an old television. The child is lit up in white and you can tell her hands are on the screen.
Meilin! Where's Lan Zhan! I'm cold! You left me out! I need my husband!
