NOAA’s National Weather Service Winter Outlook has been released.

Weather word of the week: time zone.

A time zone is an area which observes a uniform standard time for legal, commercial, & social purposes. Time zones were introduced in the late 19th century & tend to follow the boundaries between countries, but roughly follow lines of longitude every 15 degrees.

A new climate analysis from @accuweather.com revealed that flooding events in the U.S. are significantly increasing despite no apparent change in annual precipitation amounts.

The number of extreme precipitation events has doubled, and daily 4-inch rain events have increased about 70% since 1965.

The North Pacific heatwave these past few months has been astonishing. Take a look at the bottom of this image. It’s “accumulated heat stress” from NOAA’s Coral Reef Watch program. Basically the whole north basin registers Alert Level 5, dark purple. 1/
