You could argue that mp is an energy bar, and that using too much magic exhausts you… which would make ether… like an adrenaline shot. A sudden burst of excess energy to help you finish a fight but may cause you to be down for a few days after.

I like the idea of materia bein a HIGHLY regulated outside of Turks and SOLDIER Firsts. And the idea of low level materia being cycled through grunts to help it level up faster. I like even better if ShinRa isn’t aware that the Turks have any heals at ALL. this opens up another question.

but I think it’s worth considering. If they have a spinal injury, is the risk too great to even attempt it??? Healing a spinal injury while a disc slipped… will it fuse it and possibly cripple them???

Going on your original posts, I have more to add!!

Not using it on spinal and head injuries brings up another great point. Can you control WHAT you’re healing? Maybe a skilled caster can, but a noob can’t? I’ve written it as a full body heal and a specified point..

Apparently this happens in Bc, veld is trying to impress upon Tseng that life is precious, they /find/ the materia during a mission and he hands it over to tseng like a sign of trust and to further impress upon him the importance of human life which is sad cause tseng def loses the plot in the game—

I personally think that’s worse but also, it is MY RESPONSIBILITY AS THE READER TO DECIDE IF A FIC IS WORTH MY TIME GIVEN THE TAGS PROVIDED.

If I trust the author, I won’t even read the tags 😂 I honestly enjoy being surprised. But I do look at tags when encountering a new (to me)author.

I also have a real problem with just too many gibberish tags. I understand the odd silly tag or two! I DO! But so much that you lose the plot???

Tagging couples that barely show up feels like false advertising to just get your fic seen by “not your usual audience” which actually irritates me as it wastes time of readers while sifting through fics

I think if it’s bothering you though, adding the tag “no set dynamic” would be best.

But dear God! These people would NOT survive in a library.

As far as tagging goes as a concept, I think over tagging is a much bigger problem because the important stuff gets lost in a sea of junk.

But it’s actually not an authors responsibility nor their duty to tag every little thing. They give you a short summary and it is YOUR DECISION whether you want to read it or not. That is why the “author chooses not to use warnings” exists.

To be honest, where I’m at now is a bit strange. I’m seeing a lot of good takes and thinking, there is no wrong or right answer! (Which I really knew) but I still one day think I would like to have a consistent head canon of materia that can be referenced in all my fics.
