Neuvillette couldn't help but suppress a chuckle as the Melusines' eyes sparkled, their gasps of awe following Furina's every move— and with good reason, for she stood out in her attire of dramatic blues and sparkling accessories. He, too, remembered the feeling of wonder that overcame him when he met her for the first time, her extravagance and flamboyant airs completely alien to him. But even back then, Neuvillette could tell that the heart behind the act was pure and true, and he knew that her heart would shine through once more.

Now, he thought to himself. If only things go according to plan.

"Don't forget what we'd rehearsed," he murmured softly. One of the older Melusines — Sedene, she called herself — was quick to pick up. She clapped her hands together thrice, the sign they'd agreed upon.

"Welcome to Merusea Village, Lady Furina!"

The otter—no, no, this is Neuvillette, it can be no one else! she mentally reminds herself—has hopped off of the chair and onto the floor by the time she arrives once more. Having scurried over to the sofas to the right side of the room, the creature digs through the books stored along the window sill.

For the briefest of moments, Furina does not see the otter, and her mind, her chest, her stomach, and her legs fill with even more panic than she ever thought possible. But then he moves, dropping a book to the floor, and she breathes a sigh of relief.

She hurries over to him. Hesitating, she eventually picks him up, clicking her tongue as a mother would her child.

“Monsieur Neuvillette,” she chides, “you simply cannot be working at the moment.” They gaze into each other’s eyes, and Furina feels her cheeks heating up; it causes her to look away in mild embarrassment.

“Lady Furina?” Vilys says from the doorway, having finally caught up. The Archon startles so suddenly she nearly drops the furried Neuvillette—Neuvillotter...
