we recently discussed this and looking into it i am pretty sure that we can start to slowly build up infra that allows people to backup petabytes of data even though they don't have petabytes on any single device ..
but in general if you want a specific future you have to try to build it
There is definitely interesting research going on.. I suppose I wish there was more focus on say cheaper , safer , shorter mri / xray ... making it cheap enough you can get a full body scan conveniently once a month for little to no cost
more and more i hear about the tech sector that is eating itself , starting with its workers .. to me it strikes of late stage capitalism since it seems to be a trend on the uptick , companies like google with there full body massage chairs and crazy perks seem like a thing of the past ..
this is my friends problem , stuck in a tech job + debt trying to pay it off while supporting people , wishing they could find another job , the job he works it is truly exploitative , for a while they were promising overtime and then never payed through a miasma of bureaucracy ..
I just think that corporate American companies typically bear a striking resemblance to an authoritarian organization rather than a democratic one .. and it seems part of the reason why our government is headed that way? Certainly that's not the only reason and my observation could be wrong
Speaking for no one but myself I appreciate your pov ! sorry you had to deal with that over there and I hope you eventually find the right place for you and yours.
Reading all your posts has definitely made me think much more on the complexities of moderation , super important problem to work out
hah , sorry i assumed wrong. personally i am an introvert and enjoy the setup and tear down of a party but less the inbetween ,, performing doesn't count tho..
guru's are totally a danger in communes , very true. the biggest danger for that imo is actually the general group's unspoken need for a single authority. it's very interesting to see how a guru will emerge from a group.
but like anything in life, you don't know till you try !
was kind of an antisocial social space , i think you would have liked it! point being when you start to build your own spaces and communities you can decide how they are organized..
my circus school / theater / gym / half way house for broke circus people had about 15 people living there and a few hundred training there for 9 years.. most of the people that lived there were shut-ins like you , they would come out to train but mostly kept to themselves.
i know you are speaking hypothetically to prove a point but honestly i've lived with groups most of my life. mostly because i am poor but i want more. you find like minded people you pool your resources.. its hard work it has it's trade off but let's not let tech bros monopolize even this concept?
if there were a network of communes and you had a good reputation you could probably perma travel for a while, probably would get bored of that and want your own place at some point but it's possible. wwoof.net <-- there is this for people that want to do that with organic farms
