I've never done an appreciation/lore thread but I'll try one for #FantasyJudy. Give her backstory and do artshare? At first, she was a way to get a commission of a version of Judy from @crosscrescent.bsky.social that made sense in his size range and with Clarissa. @koboldium.bsky.social on colors.

Watching CritRole Campaign 4, Episode 1 and hear the line "you wear a veil of mourning, an article of religious, perhaps even ecclesiastical garb..." and I'm a pretty vocabulary-rich dude and I can't wrap my head around what that distinction is trying to parse. 🤷‍♂️

With Fantasy High, every PC fit into a recognizable high school comedy/coming of age niche so that even if you didn't know them, you knew where they were drawn from.
fitzbattleaxe.bsky.social
I dunno. Kicking off with a major NPC death with no context to it and expecting some level of anything beyond the most basic empathy with their friends, associates, and loved ones when we have literally no context for ANYTHING? I don't even grasp the archetypes we're working with.

Respectfully, @criticalrole.bsky.social, @brennanleemulligan.bsky.social, etc.,
I feel like Campaign 4, Episode 1 is trying to speed-run getting the audience invested and I'm not sure it works like that. I've seen every episode so far so I expect that I'll get into it but it feels TOO in medias res.

Ah. No worries. I kind of assumed it was a notable "He" like a Peter Thiel or some such since it was the definite male pronoun as opposed to a "Some Asshole" or such.

There doesn't happen to be a readily available clip/GIF of this, does there? I'm curious how badass/effective this looked in practice.

Hey! It's Charli back in a lovely art piece by @oniunderscore.bsky.social! She looks really comfy here, doesn't she? One of these days, I'll write up something with her to flesh her out a bit more. For now, enjoy her tall lankiness drawn by a lovely artist. #HyperSky

Pretty sure I say this every Columbus Day, but getting hauled back to Spain for excessive brutality in 1500, just as the Inquisition was really getting fired up, is some genuinely Evil Guys Hall of Infamy material

How do people “learn to live with” people who want them exterminated?

This phrasing puts responsibility on people being destroyed, and they can’t do anything, there’s no compromise between dead or alive
tricksyliesmith.bsky.social
oh no. no. absolutely the fuck not. fuck off.
a bullshit statement from Keira knightley saying she was not aware of a boycott against jk Rowling before taking a job on the new audio series and that she's "sorry" and "we're all going to have to figure out how to live together and we've all got very different opinions"
 She can fuck off.

Yeah. And sorry of that came off as 'splain-y. The origin of the term I also find interesting beyond getting into the weeds on terminology. Bowdlerizing came up in a Gilbert & Sullivan lyric that had me researching the term in my youth.
fitzbattleaxe.bsky.social
"Non-Bowdlerized" is an interesting framing. It comes from Thomas Bowdler who among other things produced a "sanitized" version of Shakespeare. Not sure it's AS accurate as calling popular narratives of Columbus "historical revisionism" b/c they do WAY more than remove unpleasant/unsavory elements.

I was fortunate in high school to take AP US History and the first book we read was Lies My Teacher Told Me, which tells a non-bowdlerized account of Columbus. I never had to spend my adult years thinking Columbus was a good guy.

This is my preferred way of realizing today is Columbus Day
drandrewthaler.bsky.social
You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

Hmm... @sandymoo.bsky.social is looking suspiciously pumpkin shaped for day 13... Good thing today's #EightSpooktacular prompt isn't "pumpkin farm" else we'd all be in trouble...

Still figuring out the growing and sensations in the cavern... But it IS the Halloween season! So, what do you think of my Mary Jane Spider-Woman outfit? It's easy to do a spider-crawl pose in my... "Situation."

There's something about OCs for me where I get an instinct about them akin to a parent. I like to see them interacting with other OCs almost like building their own alt-universe friend group. Especially with a basically immobile OC it also opens up loads of conversational/narrative possibilities.

Day 12: Clothing Mishap

Coriander Clark, Attorney at Law, was the obvious choice here with her proportions, but my number one rule for her is that she should *always* command respect-- even when buttons are popping off of her top.
Sketch captioned "Clothing Mishap": A tall, extremely busty woman in professional apparel dramatically demonstrates to her assistant how her top has shrunk by forcing buttons to pop off of it with her generous chest. She has dialog: "My last assistant Delilah put five of my favorite dry-clean-only tops in the regular wash. Now if I move my shoulders like this... *pop* ... you see why I'm talking to you and not Delilah"

Some people got angry at this post a few days ago, but I don’t know what to tell you. It really sucks but false heroes give false hope. Pritzker has said some great things and his lawsuits vs feds seems righteous but having HIS cops brutalize people makes a joke of it.

Are you stopping them? Doesn’t look like it.

Analysis is 100% right but it’s important not to blow smoke when your citizens are getting brutalized. Maybe all the people saying the governor has no legit way of actually stopping them are correct! But if you can’t, then don’t claim you are.

Pritzker: "I think it's important to recognize that the Trump administration does not seem to respect any laws in the United States. They just do what they want to do and they'll keep doing it unless someone stops them. Here in Illinois we're stopping them."
