TWO OF SWORDS #tarot
i just realized that i mislabelled yesterdays card as ACE OF cups. it should say ACE OF SWORDS.
TWO OF SWORDS #tarot
-watercolor and ink on paper
52nd tarot from the 78 card square-o tarot deck i made 5 years ago for my 20202020 ( @floatingworld.bsky.social ) daily drawing book where all cards first appeared in
https://floatingworldcomics.com/shop/art-books/20202020-by-farel-dalrymple
Based off the original Pamela Smith card
The card consists of a female figure sitting blindfolded, as she calmly balances two swords across her shoulders. Behind her is a large body of water and above her is the moon.
The woman's seated position, in combination with the crescent moon, recalls the High Priestess card, and we find a link as well in this card's representation of the characteristic strength of intuition. The woman's blindfold and the sea show a necessity to rely not on immediate stimuli but on deeper thoughts and feelings, that part of the unconscious mindthat we call our higher self.
Her seated position may also recall the Justice card. Yet here the concept of justice is not one of retribution, but of making decisions that are balanced, moral and that we trust to be harmonious within and without ourselves.
Unlike the woman held captive on the eight of swords, this card depicts a woman in control. The scene and the discipline of her pose do more to suggest that she has placed the blindfold on herself, as is done in many cultures, ritualistically, to encourage reliance on the other senses.
The woman is blind in her situation, but she is safe, not only unafraid, but centered. She wields powerful weapons, but they are not held in a position that is threatening to her or anyone else. The moon and the sea reinforce this sense of calm and equanimity.
This is a card of meditation, not of action. The crossed swords point to different possible directions, but for the moment the character is looking inward rather than outward and in the possession of an awesome power that protects her until she finds the direction to apply it.

ACE OF CUPS #tarot featuring Brian the GOAT from THE WRENCHIES

51st tarot from the 78 card square-o tarot deck i made 5 years ago for my 20202020 ( @floatingworld.bsky.social ) daily drawing book where all cards first appeared in

Based off the original Pamela Smith card
The card consists of a bearded man holding sword overtopped by a crown with which, depending on the side, an olive and a palm branch are present. These symbols represent mercy and severity.
issuing from clouds, and grasping the hilt of a sword, which supports a White Radiant Celestial Crown; from which depend, on the right, the olive branch of Peace; and on the left, the palm branch of suffering."
Other interpretations describe the Ace of Swords represents truth and intellect in its purest, most distilled form. This is because of its position as the ace of the suit.
It's important to note in understanding this card that all of the swords cards numbered 2-10 clearly depict pain, confusion, anger, and deception. It's not completely free of its ties to the rest of the suit. The imagery of the crown on the tip of the sword is the most likely explanation for Waite's interpretation of "triumph."
The mountains towards the bottom of the card represent the "objective facts of existence", and the cloud that the hand emerges from represents "a deeper level of spiritual values" that balances the cold, intellectual quality of the card with emotion.
Reversed meanings
"The same [as above], but the results are disastrous; another account says conception, childbirth, augmentation, multiplicity."
"The Root of the Powers of the Air." It is considered a very powerful card. Since it's an ace, representing the element of air, it has no assigned astrological ties to a planet or sign.
When reversed, the Ace of Swords becomes a "fearfully evil symbol."

Older art. Here's GO FOR THE GOLD #4 wraparound cover art I did for our Meathaus sketchbook anthology in 2013 featuring these two kinds of creatures that exist in some kind of weird ecosystem where the big ones suction and dehydrate the little guys into powder to lay their eggs on them.
