Reintro as things are still evolving here:
Primarily SFF book reviews, some romance (adult content will be noted in the TW/CW). I do try to put content warnings where appropriate, but I'm one person, so do your due diligence.

Occasional tea, crochet, and sewing content based on ~vibes~

Guys, my hold for book 2 came in last night and I'm almost 70% of the way through. These books are too good.
🪐📚
Worth the hype. It's a comedic and dystopian and yet you can't help rooting for Carl and Princess Donut (cat).
The adult humour takes the edge off an otherwise completely horrific experience that includes acid spitting drug dealing llamas and roid-rage gym bros.

Thoughts on reading more:
1. Set goals if it helps you
2. Read things you enjoy. If you're not enjoying it, stop reading it.
3. Join a book club?
4. Genre fiction and romance is just as valid as literature and classics. Fanfiction and smut count just as much as "literature"

I get the hype around the last unicorn now. I've not read it yet, but it's on my list. This was a fun fairytale-type story that isn't afraid to poke some fun at conventions while also telling a novel story.

We've got a peasant boy, a prince, and a princess, all of whom don't quite fit in

Got some white2tea 2022 double smoke anhua fuzhan going grandpa style and it's like someone gently wafted smoke by old book pages? Some of the more mineral tea seems to give me old paper vibes, which isn't a bad thing.

I do grandpa style most days, but I've got a gaiwan coming, so that'll be fun.

Down to the wire on this one, but I finished it before my loan was up. It's a short story anthology and I occasionally felt like I was missing things because I might not have read the book/series it tied into (reefs??). Even then it was enjoyable and weird and speculative.

This gets a rating of omnomnom because it's very good. Asil is a favorite of mine from the other series that this is a stand alone spinoff of and this does not disappoint. He's both a very scary werewolf and a chivalrous gentleman who's been given a series of blind dates....

📚🪐Pretty sure this was a scifi feed rec. And after a handful of characters that aren't as smart as they think they are, Bob is a refreshingly intelligent nerd with horrible people skills and a job at an agency that doesn't officially exist doing IT work.

While I'm not a Magic fan, I am a Seanan fan, so we're bumping this to the SFF feed. Basically if she can get enough preorders to prove the viability of MTG literature, there's a good chance more will be optioned in the future. So if you like MTG and want more books, you should support this!
As we move into a major shopping weekend, filled with sales and exciting offers, I wanted to remind y'all about OMENS OF CHAOS, the first print Magic the Gathering novel since 2019!

I'm absolutely spoiled because my library is part of the Clevnet system which covers a big chunk of NE Ohio. It covers both physical and digital items and if something's been published there's a decent chance they have it or can get it from another library.

Folks, if your library doesn’t have a book you want to read, ask them to buy a copy. Most have a convenient form and will let you know when it comes in. If your library offers ILL, they can even borrow books from other libraries.

I occasionally randomize my library's catalog on Libby and narrow it by genre and just sort of flip through it, especially if I'm feeling fussy and don't want something off my existing lists. It gives some serendipity to searching for something to read. I've found some good stuff this way.
The one thing I really miss about the 'older world' is browsing library stacks, and card catalogues. However much I appreciate databases and retrieving what I want in moments, the serendipity of 'the book next to the one I wanted' and 'the article in the same issue' cannot be replicated. #Libraries

Finished the first book, second one's on hold. If you need a reason to read the Hail Bristol series that's more than gunrunner turned princess, it is a masterwork in complex relationships and grief. You will almost certainly cry with the MC at least once. It's also got some great action and

Started my re-read (in the correct order this time) or the Hail Bristol trilogies and it's just as good as the first time through.
Links! Including the Hail Bristol trilogies - The Indranan War and the Farian War

A tired, done with your shit, former gunrunner is dragged back home to take over her mother's empire. She's not happy to be here and is going to make it everyone's problem.

Mutazione describes itself as a mutant soap opera, but I would argue it is so much more than that. To me, it is a love letter to human connection, and how we can persevere through adversity with the help of community.

Based on the note in the beginning, I believe this is at least loosely based on the 3 musketeers... Which I have somehow escaped consuming in any form, so I'm afraid I can't comment on that aspect.

It is, however, a wonderful story on its own merits with a big mystery.

The Cuyahoga caught on fire more than 10 times prior to the famous one that helped lead to the creation of the EPA. It doesn't look like this today because of extensive clean up efforts.

First off, love the content warnings (see second image). Second, what a lovely nail biting wrap up to this series that is surprisingly spicy. It is not surprisingly queer, but rather delightfully so.

If you've not read the series, think of it as a twist on sleeping beauty...

Choui Fung's Ryan Zhi oolong from Chang Rai, Thailand. Award winning oolong that I have a huge thing of and complicated emotions about :p

Light honey and floral fragrance and flavor. May have had more nuance if I'd opened it sooner (the bag is dated 2020).

Can't remember if I've recommended this before or not, but it's such a good book.

If you enjoy murderbot or Becky Chambers, you'll probably enjoy this. It's an exploration of how things went so terribly wrong with an undercurrent of humor, as well as exploring the human/automation relationship.
Just finished this gem!

Very thought-provoking, and an interesting take on purpose and humanity. Don't want to say too much to spoil it!

Definitely worth the read.

Tried w2t's smokeshou #tea today. Very light on the smoke, but it melded nicely with the mellow shou.

I'd sort of thought I didn't like shou, but this reminded me that I do have several dark teas that are nice. It's possible I just don't like the funky ones as much.

🪐📚 If you're familiar with Bishop's work, this is fairly similar in tone to her Others series. If you're not, this is a dark fairytale with all that entails, but there is also a keen sense of justice under the surface.
As her writing is frequently dark, check the content warnings for Bishop's work

About a quarter into the new Anne Bishop release and it's scratching an itch. There's something about knowing an author enjoys poetic justice that makes things easier.

Pretty sure I'm going to start a re-read of KB Wagers' Hail Bristol series because 1) it's a really good pair of series and 2) it can't hurt me if I know who dies... Or at least not as badly as it did the first time. Princess to pirate to princess, what could go wrong? Everything.

If I had to describe Smushi Come Home, I would say playing it feels like a warm hug from a beloved person. There is just so much warmth and whimsy to the game that I utterly adore
