I'm not an expert and prefer to err on the side of caution, particularly as these were purchased second hand and I don't have much information on them.

Personal risk tolerance and uncertain origin/age. The red one in particular is a quite rough red clay that I'm not a fan of. The white one is just on the upper inside portion, so may be fine. Certain types of pottery are intended to be used unglazed, but these clays are not IMHO.

The green and white are probably safe to use as they're both completely glazed on the interior and all the cups should be safe to use.

I also have some older Western style pots that I really only use for display and one badly crazed one that's display only. The dark blue one is the only one of the pots I've really used, as I bought it new, and the rest of the pots were thrifted (slightly dubious origin).

It's not quite that bad where I am, but close. Dollar general fills the gap in the worst way possible because the stores that put you closest to the other errands you need to run are 20-30 minutes away.

I'd recommend the beauty of being a beast by Jennifer estep (beauty and the beast) and how Rory Thorne destroyed the multiverse (and the sequel, bit of a twist on sleeping beauty)

I could see that being a reasonable price for something that's mostly molded. Glaze is basically melted glass with a few exceptions. While you can polish raw clay, it should retain some porosity. If you submerge it and leave it you may see bubbles and the vessel will feel damp and may appear darker.

I've got a mystery teapot that appears to be raw clay and I don't use it for tea. I think if you got it from a reputable source, it's probably ok. Sometimes the cost for those pots is how much hand work goes into them. Full hand made vs molded with an applied spout, etc.

I'm so used to using ebooks I didn't even think to include that one lol. Game changer for anywhere you have to wait, you have a library in your pocket!!

Audiobooks are fantastic! There are so many wonderful narrators out there!

I did honors and AP English in highschool and some clasics are legitimately good in my opinion. Frankenstein, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Catch 22 are all classics that I immensely enjoyed, but they're not the only things I read.

Further, any genre, literary classic or not, can contain heavy topics, social commentary, and deeper themes. This is primarily a genre review page and my goal is to share things I enjoy regardless of whether they explore the tenets of capitalism or blind dates with a werewolf.

Jumping into linguistically difficult or potentially upsetting topics and forcing yourself to stick with it is advanced readership, which is not who this post is geared to. I'm speaking to people who want to read more, but have been told only certain things count, which is discouraging.

There's a time and a place for heavy topics, as well as more than one way to present them. A lot of people bounce off books because they've been introduced through things they have to read and don't enjoy reading. If you want more people to read more, you need to start from a place of ease.

I love both. I go back and forth, depending on needs and vibes. There's some audiobook narrators that are just magic. Some books just work better as audio because of their style.

Midwest US based (I will not be discussing real world politics beyond how they apply to books). This is a cozy relaxing space which will be maintained with an iron fist.

Spoilers:
The first boss is a parody of a hoarder, but it doesn't feel like a joke, especially once Carl realizes they're a real person stuck in the system. They're very much playing off the shocking portions of humanity to justify their conquest and the book treats the hoarder like a victim.

It's also a scathing look at reality TV as this survival horror fest is being televised live across space. Even the guides and PR people are being slowly ground down by the views machine.

TW: mentions of infidelity, sex jokes (a lot of foot fetish humor), bugs, general violence, drugs/alcohol

Older books are sometimes more of a revelation than the hot new stuff everyone's talking about. There's these generational divides in popular authors and well known fiction, so we all wind up in different niches.

I've messed around with it a little bit and if you have something that works, you don't mess with it. Although I think there are better blends and commercially available blends than there were previously.

I find I sometimes have to sit with a really good book for a bit before I can start something else. And then I feel really picky because it was so good lol
