2007 – Kimi wins the Championship by one point

#OnThisDay 21 October, Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen clinched his first and only Drivers’ Championship at Interlagos by a single point, beating both the McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in a dramatic season finale.

#OnThisDay the Japanese GP became one of the most controversial endings in championship history, as Senna and Prost clashed once again. Senna had taken pole, requesting the starting slot be moved to the clean side of the track

1984 – #OnThisDay 21 October, Niki Lauda secured his third world championship by a razor-thin margin of just half a point over McLaren teammate Alain Prost at the 1984 Portuguese Grand Prix.

#OnThisDay in ’90, at Suzuka, Ayrton Senna & Alain Prost (in)famously collided on lap 1, resolving their season-long drivers’ championship battle in Senna’s favour. #AnorakFact: less well known is that Aguri Suzuki was 3rd, his only #F1 podium, in this Larrousse Lola-Lamborghini.

At the Circuit of the Americas, Räikkönen beat Max Verstappen by just over a second in winning the US Grand Prix, his 21st F1 win. 2.3 sec covered the top three, Lewis Hamilton 3rd.

With the result overshadowed by the Ayrton Senna/Alain Prost collision, settling the championship for Senna, Nelson Piquet led a Benetton 1-2 at the Japanese Grand Prix. It was Piquet's first win since Monza, 1987. 2nd placed Roberto Moreno achieved his only F1 podium.
