I realize I am posting/reposting almost exclusively political content these days. This is not my norm. Because *normally* average citizens don't need to focus entirely on politics. When the policies governing all aspects of everyday life are drastically disrupted, we *need* to focus on politics.

Exactly. I include those two under "protest" because they were single-day, large-scale organized events like with No Kings and similar protests. They just also happened to have activities beyond marching. I agree it'd be better to count ALL participants for No Kings. That's the number to watch. 😉

Today's @resistancekitty.bsky.social survival guide is so needed right now. We're still in the midst of everyday people getting scammed through clearly phony email cons that super basic tech savviness protects you from. The AI deepfakes scam the best of us when we're in reactionary mode.

More than a third have failed so far, four officials told me, impeding the agency’s plan to hire, train, and deploy 10,000 deportation officers by January. To pass, recruits must do 15 push-ups and 32 sit-ups, and run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes.
“It’s pathetic,” one career ICE official told me, adding that before now, a typical class of 40 recruits had only a couple of candidates fail, because the screening process was more rigorous.

Not "global" as in around the world. "All inclusive" as in not all participants were protesting as many were engaging in learning activities only that day. The US 20 million final count doesn't separate out that distinction.

Depends on the methodology used and what gets counted as a protest. Hands Across America in 1986 was similarly sized. (The confirmed final count will tell us which is bigger.) And the first Earth Day in 1970 was the largest, although the tally on that one (20 million) was global.

The reasoning is it'll be used as evidence against you for loyalty trials & death camps? Please. They won't be using peaceful protest pictures. That requires planning, paperwork, & building a case. They just send you to the camps, period. May as well have historical evidence of which side you're on.

I've been noticing pushback about some claims that this was the largest US single-day protest because--at the estimated 7 million on US soil--it's not. But I'm still curious what the numbers are when we include global.

Exactly! Authoritarian power grabs rely on apathy from the citizens. It's why the "playbook" requires the rapid pace of actions (whether or not they'll stick), polarization, and media control. It's less about controlling a narrative & more about wearing the people down so they can't *actively* care.
