Great day of chasing today in Central Illinois! Saw some magnificent structure, hail, and even a bird-fart of a tornado near Peoria. Below are the best structure shots of the day.

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

NOAA is the backbone of the US weather enterprise.

The rest of the enterprise needs to step up.

Support the folks who lost their jobs.

Support the communities who lost NOAA personnel.

Boost the efforts of the NWS that remains as we get into severe and hurricane season.
I want to be clear: the private sector, as it presently exists, *cannot* quickly spin up to fill any void left by substantial dismantling of #NOAA. Full stop. If that were to happen, people would die in extreme weather events who would not have otherwise, & economy would suffer.

Probationary employees across @NOAA and the @NWS are being terminated today, including those in mission-essential roles.

My own wife is among them, essential to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center's 24/7 critical mission of seismic monitoring and tsunami prediction to protect the public.
A statement I must make:

On Friday, hundreds of transgender and queer New Yorkers and their allies gathered outside the Stonewall Inn to declare that a brazen act of historical revisionism from the Trump administration would not stand. Here's what I saw and heard over about 10 interviews:

Just so we're clear, the Federal government isn't bloated with employees. There are about the same number of federal employees as there were in the eighties.

And this is while the US Population increased by about fifty percent during that same period.

In brighter news, I successfully made an (inauthentic) alfredo sauce for dinner without breaking the emulsion. It tasted good and was only kind of texturally off, which is better than pretty much any other dinner I've improvised

A reminder to folks in all sectors: people with disabilities can excel in their chosen career paths. And offer invaluable perspective. Be an ally. Don't rely on them to educate and self advocate alone. Many already struggle to work in an ableist world. #disabilitysky #disabledinstem #accessibility
I’m Krista, and people who need disability accommodations shouldn’t be scientists.
