Deep appreciation to everyone who has and will donate to our toy drive. The actual giveaway is on Dec 20 from 2 to 6 pm. If you know families in Crown Heights who might need a gift for their children/teens, feel free to let them know.

I've said this on and off for a minute, but: bring back instructional short films before feature films -- the kind MST3K/RiffTrax riff on.
We're going to have to jam civilization and science down some people's throats.

The hepatitis B vaccine had been recommended for all newborns since 1991.

From 1990-2019, acute hepatitis B infections reported among children and teens fell 99 percent. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/16/w...
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

As pointed out in this article, it will be many years before the full impact of this is felt (ie, liver cancer and hepatitis B-related deaths). There will be a spike in cases and the public will wonder how it happened and what current scapegoat they can blame it on.

Fun fact: Mom watched so many detective shows at such a rapid clip, I ended up writing a few detective stories (flash? Emergent drafts?) so she'd have something 'to watch,' an example of which is linked below.
Detective Rhinestone
Detective Edgar Rhinestone had to be the dumbest detective that I’d ever encountered in my years on the force.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

Has anyone written about how this Radiohead performance had such a clear, foundational impact on One Battle After Another? From the music of the car chase to Perfidia literally saying Freedom = no fear, it feels like a howlingly obvious thing that should have been flagged, and yet ...
