One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back.

Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance.

Be a housing fan.

I walk by this all the time and I'm so mad, the street is dangerous as is and even the little changes they did before the first stay were improvements. I hate every business that backed this and will never shop at any of them again. Fucking criminal.

Three options: 1. He believes this is what The People want. 2. Even if they don't appreciate it now they will in the future. 3. The 1000 year Trumpenreich is here

I think he believes 2, mostly
The part that I can't figure out is what John Roberts thinks he is doing. He used to seem to be a judge who was very attentive to appearances, I think on a theory that you can't draw too much attention to yourself without undermining your ability to continue to shape the law.
Every legal story now is either

Middle class / professional YIMBYs priced out of their own communities are speaking from their own lived experience, and have more legitimacy than college-educated, white shoe lawyers claiming to speak on behalf of "communities in greatest need of housing affordability."
Yes, this is famously why YIMBYs are definitely representative of the communities in greatest need of housing affordability. /s A number of YIMBY groups have even changed strategies around urban housing to be better partners... that was because this is still a very real issue!

JD Vance's ideal America is a place with half the GDP where everyone with potential and options gets the fuck out, a shithole that people from countries with actual dynamism visit to watch chintzy 'traditional' dances before going home.

All the AI in tech discourse, you know what? I don't use it. I don't believe it improves productivity, and I see what it does to the work others produce. I don't care if you use it if it doesn't create more work for me. Don't expect me to use it. The end.

A new digital awakening is unfolding in churches, where pastors and prayer apps are turning to artificial intelligence to reach worshippers, personalize sermons, and power chatbots that resemble God.

I legitimately think one of the absolute poisons of American political discourse is how “but will this matter electorally” has become the only metric used by basically the entire non-partisan media for assessing a story’s importance

I think this was the underlying problem all along; Dems were negotiating with a political suicide bomber
what’s remarkable about this is that there are zero winners at all, one of the biggest lose-lose deals I can remember

the Dem cavers will catch incandescent shit for it

the rest of the Dems will catch collateral fury

the big R win is… jacking everyone’s health care costs ahead of midterms

If you thought that the freelancers had any sort of institutional endorsement I suppose this should disabuse you of that notion but I bet most of them can't read
As this vote moves to the House, I stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and I am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote.
