It’s infuriating to me that I need to evaluate media to determine whether it’s AI generated now. The great “time saver” technology wastes incalculable time and energy for people who want to retain their grasp on reality

Nice trans-pacific conditions for #hamradio right now. Just called CQ (looking for a contact) using 10 watts (lightbulb power) on the 15 meter band from here in Seattle and got good contacts from Indonesia and Japan.

Pretty sure that my 85 year old dad using these hooks to haul wood around in his pickup is how urban legends get started.

I have several rooms in our house set up with motion sensitive lights that use millimeter wave sensors and are very accurate, only coming on when we are in them.

The basement hall sensor just tripped and I'm here alone with my cat on my lap, so very mysterious and exciting brb

Bringing back the enlightenment tradition of establishing elite social status through prominent display of a pineapple this holiday season, will post more based on success (success will be determined by number of new applicants to be my vassal)

I was especially disappointed by this since these are video game journalists that seem pretty clued in, and gamergate was a big part of the trends leading up to the modern "white nationalism is mainstream and out in the open on social media now" era we find ourselves in.
Listened to an indie games journo podcast & thought "I need to support this" when a host says "I'm a twitter troll still, that's how you find me" & at this point it's more than a turn off. It's a deal breaker. I can stomach a residual X account but I won't support you if that's your primary thing.

My iPad (Pro 11" M2) standby battery life was pretty short but I basically tripled it with these four Shortcuts automations:

Unplugged: low power mode
Plugged: normal power mode
Home: Wifi on, cell off, VPN off
Away: Wifi off, cell on, VPN on

Read somewhere that Americans wear clothing items on average 7 times before tossing them (no idea how accurate) but if I don't wear any given clothing regularly for a minimum of a decade I feel like I'm the world's most wasteful person. Honestly did not realize I was that far off norm? Anyone else?

Still rocking my MacBook M1 and no need to upgrade. My main wired headphones are 30 years old and completely repairable when they need it. My MP3 player still ticking and needs no firmware updates.

This Thanksgiving my kids and I will be celebrating the traditional way: Wearing our Gauntlet T-Shirts in recognition of the first videogame to feature a roast-bird mechanic (and saying "ELF NEEDS FOOD BADLY, PLEASE PASS THE POTATOES" at dinner).

A big turn off for me lately is reading about a podcast that sounds good, hitting up the feed and seeing AI gen album art. I would literally rather you used a crayon and made it yourself.

By all means use LLMs to transcribe and make your podcast accessible, but please don't gen shitty art for it.

Revenge of the poets:

Researchers find that you can bypass the safety restrictions in LLMs, which normally prevent them from doing things like explaining how to build nukes, by WRITING THE REQUEST AS A POEM.
