There's never been a better time to bike or take public transit.
Average new-vehicle manufacturer’s suggested retail prices hit an all-time high last month, reaching $52k, up 4.2% from last year.

(The best selling vehicle in the U.S. is a ford truck that sells for more than 65k)

All that “freedom” to be stuck in car dependency & traffic sure sounds expensive.
Average U.S. New Car Prices Top $50,000 For The First Time Ever
Prices for new vehicles have risen steadily in the last year as the pace of price increases has sped up in recent months, according to Cox Automotive’s Kelley Blue Book.

Of course, Toronto is starting from a network that was built to serve residents in densely populated areas, while Ottawa’s was built on the emptiest, cheapest land available. And on the flip side, it’s expensive and slow to drive and park in Toronto, while Ottawa bends over backwards for drivers.
And that’s setting aside the decisions not to integrate it with Pimisi LRT station, and the fact that the central branch not downtown. But it has first-class parking, so there is that.
Oh, that is such a wasted opportunity to do something great.
I’m not one to celebrate the misfortunes of others. But in the case of the New York Yankees, I make an exception.
I don’t post about sports much here, but the Jays crushing the smug, confident, presumptuous Yankees is pretty satisfying. Vladimir Guerrero laughing and yelling, “Daaaaaa Yankees Lose!” was especially fun tonight.
Kids being separated from their parents in the middle of the night, toddlers being zip-tied by masked government employees. How much more will it take before Americans have had enough and take action?
Oh, absolutely. But it’s good for mental health to count one’s blessings from time to time.
This is one of those mornings when I read the news and am flooded anew with relief at having left Ontario.
Vancouver is SO melodramatic once fall starts.
Yeah, it sounds like it’s improved a lot since the 1980s: more people living there, plus more entertainment options like the Staples Centre and the Walt Disney concert hall.
Finding a nook and exploring it is probably the best way to avoid the soul-destroying traffic.
The conference centre expansion is obviously not the key to revitalizing DTLA, but turning it into a place people want to visit and spend money in is going to be a steep climb. We had fun, but I doubt we’ll go back (by contrast, San Francisco was spectacular and deserves a return trip).
I took my daughter to downtown LA in March for a week: our goal was to enjoy the city itself. Disney and studios were not on the list. DTLA is a little rundown, but it did not seem dangerous. But it took forever to get anywhere. Transit is underdeveloped, and driving is a nightmare.
It would be a snap to spend a week in LA, just visiting neighborhoods you’ve seen, heard or read about in popular media & history - IF there was a plan and non-corrupt administrators.

Take BIDs back & install real local urban planning teams. If the existing biz knew how to spend it, they failed.
This argument reminds me of having to clean my plate when I was a kid because there were children starving in other countries.
Nor ours, when our university student was abandoned by WestJet, and then subsequently by Air Canada, while stuck in Calgary for a week, missing Christmas Day at home in the process.
Oh, this new path along Ross Bay is just a delight. I had seem some complaining on the Oak Bay FB group that there isn’t enough room for cars, but they did just fine when they slowed down - which I suspect is part of the point. Amazing work by @victoria.ca.
Bentley, be reasonable. Everybody else is busy working on schemes to get back into the schools.
It happened to me years ago when I was ticketed for failing to come to a complete stop at a traffic light. I showed my license as ID, then got dinged with demerits. I was able to have them removed, but it was a hassle.
Oh, for sure there are little pockets with some amazing gems, but they are really small - not sure I would describe either of those as neighbourhoods.
Also I’m not sure Victoria has an “ethnic neighbourhood” - I think it’s too small and too white for such a thing (unfortunately).
I had the same thought! Maybe kinda? But I’m also distracted by the absence of an IKEA or Apple Store. But many of the neighbourhood descriptions work, of course.
I’ve seen this map many times over the years, but am living for the first time in a city without a river and am a bit lost.
