My definitve case against ANYONE buying Warner Bros.

- It fails the consumer welfare standard
- It won't create value for the economy
- And it lessens competition.

Gotta love it!

Here's a fun Q from my last @TheAnkler article:

Which of these straight-to-streaming films would have grossed more than the comps I suggested? Which less?

(Feel like this subtly has major implications for the news of the last week...)

What do I always say? Strategy is Numbers. Well, Evan Shapiro PROVIDES THE NUMBERS!

Sorry for the capslock/shouting, but this is my fav piece of his all year, hand’s down.

I hope to run some numbers too, and will absolutely cite this piece.

Wow, Wow, HBO Max’s Peacemaker made the Nielsen charts in its eighth week! That very rarely happens.

@simonowens.bsky.social asked his audience if they want more long form reporting, and after reading this great piece, and I’m definitely a vote for yes!

If you want to be the conservative Netflix and you’re overspending on other things, why would you let Taylor Sheridan walk? It’s the biggest mistake they’ve made so far.

Did Netflix cancel Starting 5 and not tell anyone?

Based on when they announced S2 last year, I’d argue yes. (Also, they didn’t respond to my column with an announcement yet...)

Here's a chart I plan to refresh. Very curious how it compares, as I feel like there's dramatically less buzz for the latest Knives Out this time around:

Both Hulu and Peacock released “true crime dramas”, a la Netflix’s Monster. And each show’s release style and performance were remarkably similar.

Two corrections to a recent article, courtesy of @benlindbergh.bsky.social:

- It’s Crutch, not Crotch (Tracy Morgan’s sitcom on Paramount+ but I’m sure you knew that. Lol.)

- It’s Apple TV now, but man, I’m so tired of streamers/companies changing names

appreciate ESG for digging into all of these hyped up studios/projects to uncover that that's all there is...hype!
I still don’t think most folks grasp how much money Angel Studios is losing.

The press all reported that they had 3M presales for David (and that film might do well!), but they’ve lost $93M this year on $211M in revenue! Why is no one mentioning this?

I ran the numbers, trying to estimate Omaha Prod’s take-home/earnings on every project they’ve ever done; I literally cannot get to revenue that justifies their $750 mil valuation.

That’s anywhere from a 20-50x multiple of revenue.
