Really evocative! I can feel the wind gusts

I always enjoy your poems Paul but this is particularly fine! It also makes me remember the carved elephants we had when I was growing up courtesy of an aunt and uncle, and he was in the merchant navy too.

Hi @dragonslayerma.bsky.social Fidel. Thank you for the great ##promptcombo #SimplePleasures. My first is from my collection "These Random Acts of Wildness", (Glass Head Press, 2023)
I Make A Cuppa

Some say it is better with a warmed pot, or with tea leaves through a strainer held over a bone China cup. A specialist shop had a bud float in my clear cup unfurled

before my eyes. Expensive and rare sight.

Indulgent, like days of Imperial splendour when women tea harvester's plight long hours, low pay, working was very real.

My dad national service merchantman mariner kept his life in the loft stored in old tea chests, plywood box, steel battaned edges. Brought home carved elephants for the sideboard.

We collect the wild as ornamental. Domesticate, put on a pedestal

That title is so clever - if you ask me it's perfect 😉🙌💯

Really enjoyed this one Scott. I agree about that outer work that lets the brain go somewhere. Sometimes getting your hands in the dirt/ soil or even at the sink washing up dishes, a good practical task not really requiring deep thought, can achieve it too.

I'm sure you already know but there's a term for that - scurryfunging! Like ved the poem 👏

Hullo @rfsmith.bsky.social @dragonslayerma.bsky.social @thewombwellrainbow.bsky.social @victoriaspires.bsky.social I’m hosting #promptcombo with #visitor All welcome, use the #promptcombo to post and me @hool415.bsky.social (Please note: I’m not around all Tuesday but will catch up the next day!) Ju
Walk

That afternoon
the clouds were sullied
holding their breath of rain,
and the wind
one-handed, shyly
circled the trees again.

It was an hour
when the streets were clear
just an old man, his slowed dog,
and the nearby knock
of a Macmillan Nurse.

It felt like a hole in the day:
where time had fled
and the emptiness left
carried no anticipation.

I thought much of that nurse
and the house overrun
with the dry rot
of cancer,

how perhaps
round a downstairs bed
she helped like a priest,
dissolve the glass,
so the clouds and the wind
could be welcomed.

For #PoemsAbout #Mannequin here is ‘Disjointed’

Big shout to @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk for creating this space to share with a vast array of prompts.

Will catch up later…
Disjointed

Dreamsoft hands
replaced with fury-fists.

Gentle shoulders splinter
in vicetwist—
you carried the weight
of her malignant trivialities
for too long

my efforts to speak up
reduced to failed
staccato stilted silence
by my

             planed plastic tongue.

That's an interesting take, it's always fascinating to me what others see in the words. In my mind the dummy is more of a blank canvas, but yes your version could be in there too. Thanks for the great comment 🙏

Very powerful, Emily. Sharp and biting and memorable.
emteepoetry.bsky.social
Thanks John, it was a quickish write and because the dummy is a real thing I've encountered a few times I can see it/him sitting there on an actual chair. Always good to get others' views 🙏
emteepoetry.bsky.social
There's also something about unexpected incongruity, but yes to Uncanny Valley 🙏
emteepoetry.bsky.social
An incredible take on the topic 👏

I put the wrong prompt on here 🙄

I've missed a couple of recent prompts as I've been away. Here's a relatively quick write based on a real artifact that I've seen scare the living daylights out of numerous people. For @alanparrywriter.co.uk and #PromptCombo #mannequin
