Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER!

Thought I'd do a thread on writing tips that I might add to from time to time...
1) I've cited this one before on the other place... A description of a person or a place should tell you as much about the person doing the describing as the person or place being described. Examples below.

What should I make of this? In queue at Lidl with my 15yo anxious autistic son, who was stimming noisily. I let a man go ahead of me. He pays and says, ‘Give the change to the boy behind.’
Cashier puts change in the charity box.
It wasn’t much and I’m not bothered about 6p or whatever but 🤔.

Who stuck a Liverpool book in my white period bookshelf?

I was fed up of teaching, so I went to my local Jobcentre..

I told the assistant behind the desk that I was looking to secure employment elsewhere but with no luck!

"Have you tried the Search and Rescue Team?', she asked. "They're always looking for someone.”

I’m not wanting to bring my moans here but sheesh, being a department lead as well as a parent of a high needs child is blooming hard sometimes. 😕 I just hope my hard work is making some difference.

For lovers of snow ❄️ I give you the greatest snow ball fight in history. In 1854 300 people including stock brokers went into snowy battle at Liverpool’s Exhange. The Liverpool Mercury reported “Hats flew away, By the force of the ball, From heads that were grey, Or with no hair at all”.

Never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So never stop sharing books with kids. Never stop reading to them, and helping them to read. Never stop changing lives. #literacy #kidlit #books

THE BELL JAR

HARD ❌

It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York

EASY ✅

That summer was sizzling, and so were the Rosenbergs

Schools - has anyone moved your organisation’s social media to Blue Sky? Thinking about the lovely school where I work still being on Twitter gives me the heebie jeebies. A neutral platform would be so much better.

Word of the Day is a true favourite, as some of you will know.

Apricity (17th century) is the warmth of the sun on a winter’s day.

@psalisbury.bsky.social please tell me you brought Jeff and Elaine with you to Blue Sky. Once I’m secure in that knowledge, I will finally delete twitter. 🙏

1. The challenge in primary education lies not merely in imparting knowledge but in ensuring pupils can apply it meaningfully. As Jerome Bruner observed, “Knowledge is not a set of facts to be amassed but a set of possibilities to be acted upon.” Without application, knowledge risks stagnation.

Oh I love this.
“Why did the Hungry Caterpillar make a cocoon?”

#EYFS child: “So no one bothers him.”

“Sorry?” I ask.

EYFS child: “He needs time to THINK himself INTO a butterfly.”

“Wow!” I respond.

EYFS child: “Well, he didn’t do it by magic.”

Good morning.

Word of the Day is as beautiful as it is underused. ‘Confelicity’ is finding joy in the happiness and success of others.
