Guide to Fate & Her Atrocities, an adult romantasy at 95k #agentguide #agentguides #romantasy #amquerying
Fate and her atrocities The pitch: She reads minds; he sows thoughts into them.
It’s a cruel twist by the Goddess of Fate that makes them-- and only them-- impervious to the other’s ability.

To protect those she owes everything to, she’ll have to kill him. Yet with each try, it only gets harder.
Has Fate given her a blessing or a curse? The tropes: moon-based magic, enemies-to-lovers, chronic pain rep, found family, mythology The comps: Curious Tide by Pascale Lacelle (unique magic), The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon (complex characters), When the Moon Hatches by Sarah A. Parker (dark yet ethereal vibes)

Namura and Maev are friendship goals
I glance at Namura over my shoulder, and her smile is as wide as mine. We look at each other for a moment before bursting out in laughter. She grabs her stomach and swats at me until I grab her hand. Her laugh is heavy, the only thing about her that doesn’t match what belongs under a crown. It’s what first attracted me to her. That she didn’t care if her laugh was full of snorts and hollers: being born to a throne wouldn’t mold everything about her.
“Thank the gods!” She throws her hands up to the sky. “Our mothers will sleep peacefully in their graves. Their rotten daughters have not foresaken them.”
“Except for now.”
“On a roof,” she continues and lifts one leg up, “wearing pants.”
“The gods are weeping.”

My midpoint is a little different. I want to create a false sense of victory that starts around the midpoint and crashes at the All is Lost. The MC reaches her goal at the midpoint and is finally recognized for it, but it has contradicted what she has learned on the way.

15. The midpoint of the story serves two purposes: (1) it reveals critical information to the MC and (2) causes the MC to confront both who they used to be and who they need to become to grow, change, and/or achieve their goals. What are some ways you could do this?

As a fantasy writer, I always make my own worlds but inspired by real places.

For this WIP, the main kingdom is heavenly inspired by the Himalayas. The elements of wind, water, flame, and stone keep humans safe from the spirits, so humans have to live in high altitudes.

#WIPSnips October 14th ultimate
Tenacious and his friends are getting unwelcome attention from a strange police officer named Bland.
From "Tales of Midbar: Exiled Angel" - www.inkitt.com/stories/624474
Background: A ruin on the edge of canyon.

"Anyway," said Generous, "they've produced a few anavim, most of whom have relocated to other sephirot but Bland, and probably the royal family, thinks they've been disappeared by the XT's. Therefore, he thinks that Beauty has some strange relationship with the XT's because she's the oldest of the anavim they've bred who hasn't disappeared and she's employing drop-offs and has a history of being
interested in them. It seems by their reasoning that Freethinking should also have disappeared but for some reason Bland thinks he's different from Beauty."
"The fake drop-offs were the only people I got on with!" said Beauty. "Later, I befriended some of the last real drop-offs to help fake drop-offs act realistically. By the way, all the real drop-offs I've met have been naviim and as far as I know, they all married naviim, often other drop-offs and formed a true-breeding navi extended family."
"It sounds like they're doing the same thing as us," I said. "Only nibeyim can't teleport."
"They can go through wormholes," said Freethinking.
"That's very dangerous," said Breeze, "and requires difficult magic."
"It's more likely they're just coming from off-world or perhaps the Big Sea," said Fascinating.
"But none have come in the last forty years," I said. "And now a bunch have disappeared, including descendants of the ones from forty years ago."

They are all my beloved children and I'm excited to write all of them BUT if I have to pick one, it will be my FMC. I am having a lot of fun diving into the mind of a courtesan who fakes spiritual divination.

I'm so super excited to write the villain because I love villains.

Since I want to make this a duology, the ending will end on a cliffhanger. Maev gets what she wants: she's not a courtesan and a respected captain on the spirit corps. However, the theme of freedom has a cost comes back, and while she might have everything she wants, none of it is sweet.

I love Save the Cat and Story Genius. I'm so character-driven that my external plot will take a hit if I can't reign it in and run wild just on my characters. So both help me stay organized. BUT I'm a firm believer that everyone needs their own process.

So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?

I have the same habit, but I think as long as the protagonist is making active decisions, they will have enough agency. ☺️

He followed me up the stairs to my room. As soon as I shut the door, he pushed me against it and cupped my jaw in his hand. “I told you that I was going to kiss you later. Did you forget?”

I had because he had made me so upset.

When the vampire transformation gets surrealist and poetic 🩸

#wipsnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
It all starts with one drop.
Amidst a puddle of blood filled with countless others, one single drop wants to be different. Needs to do different.
It chooses the path to the black maw calling to it in the distance.
It drags and crawls.
Rolls and slithers.
Wields the effort of a lifetime to fulfill its most desperate need.
The blackness calls to it like the sweetest song.
Like a piper.
It pushes through a sea of its peers. They laugh and jeer as it passes, ridiculing its efforts.
But the drop doesn’t listen. The drop doesn’t look.

WIP: May Death Find You Alive

#WIPSnips
Shaky hands, a lighter in one hand, and a white chalk in the other. These were all that stood between him and a dangerous life-altering decision... if it worked. Most people would chalk summoning demons to urban legends. For him, he knew it could be done. He knew it was real. However, his family, the people that could mentor him in such a task, no longer spoke to him. It broke his heart to know they cut ties over something so stupid, but what was done was done. He was forever shunned from his circle. He had to find a new way to get what he wanted, no, needed. So, he drug the chalk across the grass, leaving a shaky white line. He meticulously looked back at his notes, making sure to dot all his i's and cross all of his t's, metaphorically speaking. The candles on the pedestals were lit next. All that was left was the chant. His vocal cords slammed themselves shut at the thought of actually going through with this. But, if he really wanted this, he needed to push forward.

He stood at the edge of the circle; Moonlight bright above him. The wind blew so casually that it chilled the sweat running down his back on the warm summer night. Clearing his throat, he started,

These are good points!
I'm going to add that writer's block isn't how it appears in the movies. It isn't so much that you can't get words out and need inspiration, but rather you know something is off about the plot or a character that you just can't put your finger on.

There are three main things I want to show in the first scene:
1. Maev and Namura's friendship
2. Spirit lure
3. Maev's goal to get out of being a courtesan
I'm thinking it starts with Maev and Namura on the roof of the palace away from everyone else. Maev is secretly hunting spirits.

After her mother died, Maev only had her friends Namura and Damaen. But since one is the crowned princess and the other the general, she only gets slips of their time. Maev's quest for freedom and becoming strong for herself derives from this.
