In the Thoresby Room today (chucked out of the main room due to filming).
Rousseau trying to wedge his way onto today’s National Black Cat Day FB page. Technically he doesn’t quite qualify (being a tuxedo) but plays the part well…
Obsession!?! Had fun hoovering these up to stockpile in A Nickel And A Nail a few years back. They flew out.

I pulled this one together last week for Cultura, in case anyone missed it / of interest. On one lady’s NAACP activism, and the darker moments of her childhood hometown’s history.

A management business card for Screamin' Jay Hawkins. I picked it up from a dealer who initially acquired it from Neil Carter, Twisted Wheel DJ. Hawkins was one of the touring R&B acts to appear at the Wheel around that time (mid-late 1960s). #screaminjayhawkins

The World Food Programme is now delivering 750 tons of aid into Gaza daily, but that's still way below their target of 2K per day. The WFP is also failing to effectively reach the most vulnerable. The limiting factor is crossing closures, making access to the north particularly problematic.
Pleased to be working with Refugee Biriyani & Bananas, now that I'm providing their writing services. RBB's resume is impressive. Includes advocacy, humanitarian aid and community support in Greece, Gaza and Cairo . So first up...

Morning all from the ‘other’ office in rainy Leeds! As the weather turns, nice to know this will be the first year that the library staff don’t need to offer us blankets (was a thing until the central heating was sorted out). Still got my eye on that old Imperial btw.

A year since her passing, but her legacy of support for civil rights and calling out social injustice won't be forgotten.

Freddie North, from Nashville’s vibrant R&B scene died this week, aged 86. Freddie was renowned for avoiding discussions about his commercial recording career. I tried to interview him at one point—with limited success—though I think Tony Rounce did a better job for the Kent CD. #soul #nashville
As I mentioned before, I have quite a collection of these. The oldest one so far.

This afternoon I stopped to chat with Leeds Women in Black. The Leeds anti-war group were established 6+ years ago—way before 7 Oct 2023—and since then have been turning out on a weekly basis for vigils in the town centre and to protest against Israeli occupation. #gaza #genocide #writingcommunity

I have an obsession for picking up these NAACP cards for my civil rights collection.
They'd tell so many stories, if not for the fact that many of these individuals are now untraceable or no longer with us. History that is potentially forgotten.
Here's one of my exception.

Another from the press photo collection. Samuel Jackson, one-time Topeka NAACP director and assistant secretary of the US Dept. of Housing and Development during the Nixon administration. The caption wired to the press office gives context (image July 1970). #civilrights #NAACP #BlackHistoryMonth
