Annette and I have been in a few Japanese gardens in our time. There's even one just a 20 minute walk from home. This one we saw in Santiago was pretty stunning though.

Any doubts about Israel's weaponisation of water?
PM Eshkol (1967):
"We should deal with this issue quietly, covertly, and should find a way for them to emigrate to other countries…perhaps if we don’t give them enough water, they won’t have a choice, because the orchards will yellow and wither."

Today’s perch is in a nasty colonialist history book section, going by “Imperial Legacies” and “The Hungry Empire”. TBF there are also a few critiques so I’ll reserve boycotting my seat for now. That, and the only other space to work today is in the basement. It’s cold and creepy down there.

Most admissions were caused by Moscow's 'unique' heating system. A network of steam pipes exists under the streets—decaying Soviet-era infrastructure. Spontaneous high pressure steam and water leaks were common. Injuries were extensive: potentially as fatal as flame injuries of the same size.

The UK Children's Fire and Burns Trust asked me to attend Moscow's flagship paediatric facility for major burn injury during 1999. As a UK burns dietitian, my role was to exchange ideas with the Russian equivalent of a clinical dietetic department, and to deliver nutrition training to medical staff.

The annual airing of this pic during my time at Speransky no.9 Hospital, Moscow. Bit of background behind this one which I'll reveal. Meantime, from left: Prof Sergei (Head of Plastic Surgery), Dr Budkevicz (burns surgeon), me, and a UK infection control nurse (name escapes me).

Morning all. Just me (and a random guy playing his electric guitar) in the cafe for the daily ritual.

Since Oct 2023, World Central Kitchen provided over 150 million meals in Gaza. Even when kitchens closed due to evacuation orders, WCK delivered food packages, fresh fruit and infant formula.
The combined target across Gaza is to prepare one million meals each day.

My latest piece for RBB. Highlighting what has been described as the worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century so far. Over 30 million Sudanese people require aid due toighting, famine and displacement, and 1.5M have fled to Egypt. #writingcommunity refugeebiriyanibananas.org/sudan-a-disp...

How the emergency situation evolves and what agencies are doing about it is something that I'm currently immersed in and will be reporting on through my work for the charity RBB. More to come.

Almost 1M Sudanese are in Egypt: women and children who face continued homelessness, abduction, exploitation and violence. Aid agencies are in place in key areas In Egypt though initiatives target groups other than the Sudanese community (cont.)

Sudan has also entered a particularly violent phase since RSF's takeover last month of el-Fasher in Darfur. There's another element to the story: the displaced and those who have fled to neighbouring countries (cont. in comments)

Been up here a few times! One of our regular circuits as we live just 45 mins away. Only 400+ bloody steps up to the top. Will probably be familiar to fans of the Harry Potter movies.
