...the cases of Georgia & Azerbaijan (and Armenia) might well prove that this model of authoritarianism is sustainable and can fuel similar solutions elsewhere in the EU’s neighborhood — or even within the EU itself. (already happening)
The EU states this is ‘a relationship to grow based on mutual respect’, indicating a troubling respect for Azerbaijan’s red lines, particularly its freedom to ruthlessly suppress values EU professes to hold dear.
EU-Azerbaijan relations are blueprint for authoritarians.

The EU looks the other way as Azerbaijan jails journalists & crushes dissent.

(Armenia, too...propped up authoritarianism; EU/West wants this; without war, all would lose their jobs, $$$$$ & face jail time)

At first glance, this approach appears irrational & inconsistent w/democratic values. (It is, Araz.) To understand it, one must look closely at the methodology the Azerbaijani government employs in managing its relations with Western states & political institutions. (Corruption reigns for now, Araz)
Despite holding nearly 400 political prisoners, Azerbaijan’s leadership was warmly received by the democratic world during 6th & 7th summits of European Political Community held in May & September 2025.

(Those in power in the West do not care, Araz; but many citizens on this earth do care)
Is Azerbaijan sincere with its peace rhetoric or just bargaining with the West?

Widely expected-the continuous repression over past 2 yrs would seriously damage Azerbaijan’s relations w/Western institutions & lead to isolation. (One would think so, Araz...)
