Folk singer and folklorist Ellen Stekert's new single, “I’ll Give You Any Mountain,” is a song with roots deep in the 1960s folk revival. Written by her friend Tracy Powers more than 60 years ago but never released, the piece is finally being shared with the world.

Ellen's latest new release is "Shugo," a playful nonsense song she learned from retired lumberjack Fuzzy Barhight in 1956. (If you know Ellen's discography: Yes, it's the same Fuzzy whose songs she sang on her 1958 Folkways disc "Songs of a New York Lumberjack."

Some very cool music news: We have discovered what we think is the earliest known home recording of blues and gospel legend Reverend Gary Davis in Ellen Stekert’s personal archives, made in 1951 when he was still a street performer in New York. ellenstekert.com/2025/07/18/e...
