Am writing a pinned thread to welcome new followers. I am French, proud European citizen, and I have been writing about #climatechange & #sustainability since 2007.

Below is a selection of my most recent articles, focused on what I see as the key topics / tech. Consider it a primer on the topic.
Politicians and courage... we are so toast !

Unless we act locally. And massively.
“Thirty years after the first COP meeting took place in Berlin, and one decade on from Paris, that road map must be expanded to include a plan to phase out fossil fuels. Failure to do so will leave none of us unscathed.”https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-03851-6
World leaders must find the courage to end the fossil-fuel age
Despite the weak agreement seen at the COP30 climate conference, Brazil was right to prioritize discussing the eventual phase-out of fossil fuels. Others must now help to find a way forward.

In France - and elsewhere am sure - data centers can heat up public swimming pools and other buildings.

It's really much smarter than just building regular data centers that needs massive amounts of air conditionning...
It's been in the news lately (see below) as the pilot installation, at a home in Essex, is now operational. But I noticed it raised a lot of questions for people. So, I spoke to Thermify and their installation partner to find out more...

It's not every day, you get really close to seeing $42 billion move from the world's largest asset manager because of their lack of credible climate action.

Blackrock, which manages more than $12 trillion, has repeatedly failed to take climate change seriously.

In a few years, Google went from "Dont be evil" to "IDGAF as soon as I am making a buck"...

And it goes for many other large US corps. Greed is good again !
Google has now admitted that they will tap into users' personal data within Gmail and Drive in order for their upcoming AI search to "be more helpful".

For years, Google has advertised their services as "encrypted" and "secure", which begs the question: are they really?

DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Most people hear “heat pump” and think of small air-source units at home. But Germany is building one of the world’s largest heat pumps in Mannheim: a 162 MW river-source system using heat from the Rhine.

Big reminder that heat-pumps scale far beyond households — they can decarbonise whole cities.

Eat
(Much)
Less
Meat.

It is that easy.
Turkeys are flavorless and dry, and they want to live. This Thanksgiving, @mbolotnikova.bsky.social encourages you to challenge the status quo and embrace plant-based alternatives, have conversations about ethical food choices, and create more sustainable and compassionate traditions.
8 million turkeys will be thrown in the trash this Thanksgiving
We don’t have to accept all that death and waste for a dry, flavorless bird no one likes.

Winter is here. Temps have been -5 C and -8 C in the last two nights. No snow... yet ?

The wind is hawling and I can hear it despite the thick double glazing and shutters.

Am toasty warm under many blankets and a duvet. Turned heating off. Electricity is expensive...

Ninite everyone !

Many conclude that #COP30 wasn't a big success, but not a big failure either.
Given the speed with which the climate crisis is developing, any COP that's not a big success is now a big failure, though.
We can't afford losing a year.

In - f#cking - deed. Are we gonna wait for COP40 to actually #ActOnClimate ? We oughta ditch fossil fuels and overconsumption... fast !

#COP30
Quite a metaphor. 👀

And its been the case since 2020... or 2016...

Gosh, no wonder we are all going nuts. And we are waiting for /something/ to happen so that we can begin the slow road to recovering our collective sanity.
it's weird to live in a world where a new 'worst thing you've ever imagined' happens at least a few times a month and it's easy to let it all run together and just sort of wash over you and go totally numb to all of it so you don't freak out because you still have to do laundry and go to work.

If I read @ember-energy.org's reports right, coal still accounts for close to a third of South Korean electricity, and fossil gas for another quarter...

There are so many reasons to just kill the AI takeover in our lives.
