Mark Twain, is quoted as having said that History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes.

Understanding the historical precedents of the current period would help us fix the problems and avoid it from recurring in the future.

Over 2.3 million confirmed so far and the rural wave is real. We were tracking ~3,000 events, but small towns across the country are pouring in with numbers we hadn’t included. A submission portal for city + attendance is coming soon. All counts will be double-certified before the final release.
I’m watching the last episode of 911. I got a serious injury to my science and my engineering.

Astrophysics so bad that now I want to see a @neildegrassetyson.com reaction video to that mess.
This is the real problem in the U.S. , the unavoidable consequences of inequality and the rise of the oligarchs.

The reason behind the discontent that, being molded by propaganda, power, and corruption gave rise to MAGA.

I have absolutely no pity nor sympathy for Mitch McConnell, he’s one of the most evil corrupt beings on the planet who destroyed our Supreme Court and led this country to the disastrous train wreck we are in today.

NEW: in a hearing where a judge is asking the government why it’s defying her court order about deploying tear gas without warning in Chicago, the government argues ICE isn’t using body cams, and they can’t start using them because the government is shut down.
Skedzielewski also cites the shutdown and says "I don't believe that it will be possible, on a short timeline, to roll out a body cam program in the Chicago [area of responsibility] for ICE.

For CBP it "may be more workable."

Mike Johnson has now had the House adjourned for 73 out of the last 85 days.

Epstein Shutdown.
Money in politics is a problem, but frontal attacks seldom work. We need to find the weak points and change democracy itself, make it harder for money to win elections.

#RankedChoiceVoting is one such solution, by enabling multi-party elections.

"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." –Justice Louis Brandeis

Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today.

We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.
If there is one individual who we can single-handedly blame for the present Mango Maduro imperial era, is Mitch.

His partisanship and power-grabbing, as well as his looking the other way as laws and rules were being broken, created the dark authoritarian era we are living through.
Good lord.

At this point, Mitch McConnell is an animated corpse shambling around and haunting the Capitol.
The same problem arose when radio and TV came along, but at the time the generational memory was much more recent and the dangers were quickly identified. With laws and regulations enacted to compensate.

By the time Cable TV reached that point, during the Reagan era, stupidity was taking hold.
As i already said, there is absolutely nothing new with this phenomenon. It’s something that recurs every few generations when social knowledge fades.

You can find it clearly described in Plato’s Republic. In his time it was writing itself that many people, like Socrates, saw as the problem.
Social media is an amplifier that makes information move faster and globally, but it’s exactly the same as saying that it was pamphlets and newspapers causing the civil war.

The problem is people, interactions between people, and greedy people controlling algorithms. Mussolini was a journalist.
Not true. As you well know correlation doesn’t imply causation.

The root causes are complacency, inequality, greed, and stupidity. These combine to create the Dunning-Kruger Doom Loop that has plagued societies ever since we have had historical records.
How did we get here?
Never underestimate the destructive force that is human stupidity

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.
We are all Anne Frank.

One Battle After Another
During a military-style raid on a building in Chicago’s South Shore, one resident heard a knock on his door.

It wasn’t the feds —  it was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for help.

He let them hide in his unit for the next 3 days.

Isn’t SHEIN staffed by illegal immigrants?

Maybe someone should call the ICE tip line about this.
