Would I carry Eddie the ship's computer around like a Tamagotchi yes I would.
Instead of Eddie being confined to the ship’s Heart of Gold he can be apart of the narrative.
Here’s a concept AI jewelry, ear buds, or even a robot itself.

Trillian, Zaphod, Ford, Arthur and even Marvin can upload Eddie the computer into a cute little device they can carry around when they need his help.
B. Or maybe wiping us out was always the plan. Calling us “apathetic” just made the demolition feel deserved in their eyes, a neat bureaucratic justification for the paperwork.
Vogon: They have the power to interact with us. Let us see if those ape descendants can finally prove they’re not as stupid as we think they are.
We had NASA. We had Einstein’s relativity, the speed of light. Others used these things for commerce, leisure, and exploration, but we never crossed that line. In that light, “apathetic bloody planet” wasn’t just an insult. It was a verdict: we had the potential, but we never lived up to it.
A. The Vogons may have expected us to make first contact ourselves to prove that we were capable of scientific progress and ready for light-year, interstellar travel like the other races across the known universe.
As far as alien species go, maybe the Vogons were hoping we would make progress and take our place on their world stage. When they called Earth an “apathetic bloody planet,” it carried real contempt.
If they could get here, then other alien species clearly don’t have a problem dropping by either. We’re just that thing out in the sticks, out of the way, not worth the trouble, but not hidden.
They’re capable of light speed, which makes them formidable. The same goes for the teasers Ford caught a ride with when he first came to Earth fifteen years ago.
As the Vogons said, they knew how long an Earth year was. Which means they’d probably been watching this place a lot longer than we realize.
what hope did we ever have? Earth was never going to be offered a seat at the table. We were left to muddle along in our isolation until the Vogons came to demolish us like an unwanted speck of dust.
Not even the president of the Imperial Galactic Government cared enough to make first contact with Earth. If someone with that kind of power and influence couldn’t be bothered,
This planet is not just miserable. It's ignored.

Nobody really cares.

We are alone in a place the galaxy sees as disposable.
Which leads me to speculate: if Zaphod, the president of the galactic government, drops in and walks off with a woman from a party he crashed in Islington, then there is no respect for Earth even from those in power like Zaphod.
We constantly fantasize about first contact, but our contacts did not care enough about us to do that sort of thing.
Zaphod could have sent down ambassadors. He could have sent out envoys or some kind of formal delegation. Instead, he pretended to be human and hit up the nearest astrophysicist.
As for all those UFO sightings passing over Earth, I am sure Ford noticed. We had opportunities, didn’t we?
The Vogons did not think we were worth negotiating with, and as for Ford and the other alien species, it sounds more like nobody thought Earth was worthy of being brought into the galactic community beyond our solar system.
I’d chalk this one up to cosmic indifference.

Zaphod was the president of the Imperial Galactic Government. He had all the political power and clout to help us out.

The Betelgeusians barely acknowledged us.
Could Earth have been saved from being demolished? Let’s let look at the facts shall we?
making fun of people with deeply held beliefs is one thing but my dad did openly bash religion during my childhood and now we have MAGA I can see why he was very outspoken about those sorts of things...
I watched it with my dad back when I was a kid so I understand.
