Why is reading recovery bad in general and why is it especially bad for kids with dyslexia?

Most schools don’t use Reading Recovery for struggling readers any longer. But, a few still do, so you want to pay attention and make sure your child isn’t put in Reading Recovery

Open Syllables

Open syllables have just one vowel and it’s at the end of the syllable and it says its own name (they are long vowels).

One way to help your child learn sight words is to write the words on an index card. Then have them draw a picture to help remember the word. Then start practicing reading the words on their cards, eventually they can cover up the picture and read them without looking. #dyslexia #dyslexiatutor

These are units, sometimes called glued sounds. They are groups of 3 letters that are pronounced a little differently than expected. They are used at the ends of words. In the Barton Reading and Spelling System they are introduced in Level 3.
