I remember the first news of school shootings (college & HS), back when I too, was a youth. I didn’t know I’d be a college professor as an adult. But it’s not lost on me that so much remains the same, even though some of us grew up in this phenomenon & now work in this phenomenon.

Every classroom I’ve ever taught in, the door is immediately to the right or left of the podium/computer in the front of the classroom. I am most visible and open to whomever enters the room. I think about this every semester. I think about this whenever there is a school shooting. Nowhere to hide.

Internally screaming and loudly clapping for all students at December commencement this morning. I dislike when some students walk across the stage to silence. It’s a big accomplishment for everyone! And I will clap!

My dear husband & I stepped out for errands before snowfall & the young dude ringing us up sheepishly & authentically asked if I was from NY. I was wearing a Knicks cap & I told him yes, then once he learned where my husband was from, he started asking about the Wire tv show. This was the most

Advice | Faculty Motivation in a Uniquely Demotivating Time
It’s unreasonable to expect professors to hit hurdle after hurdle and still stay in the race. Institutions are going to have to clear some obstacles.

My classes for Fall 2025 wrap up today. It has been a whirlwind semester filled with doing, thinking, learning, and creating. This is just my experience; I haven’t even mentioned our students yet. Year two on the tenure track has been incredibly busy. While there are still many details to finalize

okay, I have to wonder how many of the people declaring that disability accommodations have gone "too far":
1. are disabled.
2. went through the process themselves.
3. work in higher ed at all.
4. read ANY critical disability studies work at all? Like, any?

For the love of everything good in the world, playing semantic ping pong in email with certain folks almost feels like certain people at work enjoy misunderstanding faculty. Like damn, we all have our own work to do and some folks relish in making it harder for you to do yours.

“When disability, poverty & systemic neglect make life unbearable, that is not ‘autonomy’ — it is abandonment.” CRDJ's MAiD report shows that disabled people—especially those who are poor, Indigenous, or people of color—are offered help to die more readily than help to live. [2/3]
