A Sydney Spiny Crayfish crossing the trail in Royal National Park where he'll find a damp ditch to set up home by digging a deep burrow into the mud. This formidable fellow is around 15cms (6") in length and his presence is a good sign that the Hacking River is in pretty good shape. #nature #WildOz

Get those nasty red swamp invaders!
The Hooded Merganser is a handsome diving duck with a taste for crustaceans, small fish, and aquatic insects, which they hunt entirely by sight. Their eyes are specially adapted to account for light refraction underwater, making them fearsome—but undeniably beautiful—hunters of crayfish.

Fears for endangered Tasmanian crayfish species after 'unauthorised' earthworks

Last year TEPA (EPA) quietly issued a stop-work notice to an industrial company over "unauthorised" and "extensive" damage to waterways housing the endangered giant freshwater crayfish.
