As far as I'm concerned, this has been the best year for new music since 2019. I can't say i bother with legacy bands any more, so the standard of new and up and coming bands is phenomenal.

@jelbugle.bsky.social I just heard a riff from The Sweet's Ballroom Blitz in a Byonoisegenerator song!

How many other "lost" albums are there like this? Due to a band dispute, this got pulled within hours of being uploaded to Bandcamp. Such a shame, it's like Rings Of Saturn learnt to write songs.

Love how when the academics at work want me to do something they're all over me, but as soon as I need something they maintain strict radio silence at all times 🙄

Just discovered a long split up Mexican band, described as "Melodic Technical Death Metal" and that's an instabuy for me. Very Within The Ruins/The Raven Autarchy-esque and a bit Djenty, so not for everyone who isn't me.

Just finished it, a real lesson in how to successfully carry out a remake. Respectful to the original version whilst embellishing it, giving it a modern visual and controls scrub up and improving the puzzles. Well done, Bloober Team, well done.
Some thoughts on the Silent Hill 2 Remake;

It looks amazing.

Sound is disgusting, squelches, drones and gurgles galore. Amazing.

It's fun to play and explore with excellent puzzles.

ATMOSPHERE. This is where Bloober have really nailed it, it feels like playing the original 1st time on the PS1.

I'm always in a "Necrophagist on Clarinet" mood. Absolute mastery of his instrument, I miss Caleb's jaw-dropping covers.

For an obscure demo track recorded 13 years ago, this is some wildly creative Technical Death Metal, never heard anything remotely like it. The sequence from 0.40 to 1.09, then on to 1.55 is mindblowing, then 3.06 hits a minute or so later. Dedz. More is more!

I don't believe Thrash Metal has had a better sound than the new Transgressive EP. Even the snare sound is similar to my beloved Lunacy by Virus. Soloing sounds like prime Vio-Lence. Perfect, crisp/crunchy guitar tone 😋

Question for Silent Hill 2 Remake enjoyers; I'm a huge Silent Hill fan but hated 2. Does the remake feel sufficiently different to the original? I found it boring and without atmosphere.

You could have a decent band called Mike Smith, made up of people called Mike Smith;
Mike Smith on drums (ex-Suffocation)
Mike Smith on guitar (Deceased)
Mike Smith on vocals (ex-Savage Grace)
Mike Smith on bass (ex-Sensory Defect)
Mike Smith on keyboards (ex-Impellitteri)
Produced by Mike Smith
