I decided to sift soil with a colander (yes, the kind for vegetables). Not effective. Looking at soil sifters, and I think I could make a proper one myself?

Here is Baby Eloise enjoying her garden.

A US citizen with a learning disability who has just suffered a medical emergency asks a CBP officer for directions outside the emergency room. He ends up detained in an icebox for ten days and has the assistant secretary of DHS lying about him to the public at large. popular.info/p/us-citizen...

Correction for correctness because I am not actually certain: there is a non-zero chance a linguist has written a paper about this 🙃

Substitution test gets us closer? There is no chance, there are no marbles.

There is not a chance I will pass the exam.
There is zero chance that I will make up the exam.
There are no chances.
There are zero chances to make up the exam.

Republicans want to slash Medicaid — a death sentence for thousands of Americans. Medicaid provides health care to more than 37 million kids, funding for 2/3 of seniors in nursing homes & is 40% of the revenue for community health centers.

We must EXPAND Medicaid, not cut it.

Sure, because addicts just forget to pick up their heroin and then decide they don’t really need it anyway because things are actually going fine, like all the time 🫠

You do not want to wait to submit ROI forms until you are in the position of trying to help someone access care or prescriptions

This is not to be alarmist but this is an important step to take to be prepared for the worst case

If you care for a family member on Medicare/Medicaid

Make sure release of information and contact numbers are up to date

It will be easier to advocate for them if these are already in place

What was interesting about algorithms?

The challenge of doing X with as few resources as possible (memory, power, etc).

What are OpenAI + friends doing? The opposite.

"Lets assume we have unlimited resources & try to build a god."

No wonder they're losing their shit with the DeepSeek thing.

A few weeks ago @emollick.bsky.social hyped this alleged study showing positive impact of AI in Nigerian education. Mercifully @ddmeyer.bsky.social has dug into what's really happening so I don't have to, and unsurprisingly, it's a crock. We need to do better. open.substack.com/pub/danmeyer...

this confirms something i have long suspected, which is that certain people are told that their professional and academic failures are because of “affirmative action” or “DEI” as a way to avoid difficult conversations about their mediocrity www.wsj.com/lifestyle/ca...
You Blamed DEI for Hurting Your Career. Now What?
For people who pin their failures on diversity, corporate America’s DEI retreat removes a barrier—or maybe an excuse.
