While aspects of early 20th cent USA trade policy are now playing out, we should be mindful that while history repeats itself it doesn’t repeat exactly… what could happen next? Could #EU & #China find an economic realignment seeking to bypass in the long-term a stagnant US?

@aaronwherry.bsky.social hits the nail on the head… it’s back to pre-WWI for the USA. Isolationist and no allies, with trade tariffs as its means of international engagement.

But the British blogger won't walk free as he faces eight almost identical cases - based on the same torture 'confession' as this trial.

They all knew it was coming and just thought it would all go away… The question now is how useful is Article 47.2 of the Lisbon Treaty the Mutual Defence clause in defending Europe and will Ukraine still seek EU membership as a bulwark against Putin ….
As much as I can understand the outrage over Hegseth's and Trump's statements: None of this really comes as a surprise, does it? To me, it is a scandal how unprepared we are in Europe for what‘s happening.

I will be on Morning Ireland RTERadio1 between 0830-0900 Monday morning, to talk about Elon Musk, the threat he represents to democracy in Europe, and what the EU might do about it.

Especially important after his continual boosting of far right AfD in Germany in recent days.
