the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Do you know what it is like to grow up in a home where you had to emotionally care for your parent instead of them caring for you? And then face the cultural pressure to keep doing that for the REST of your life, even if you have children/other dependents yourself? It's a freaking nightmare.

hey just a little reminder that we don't expect women who divorce abusive husbands to emotionally care for those men the rest of their lives. Adult children of toxic and abusive parents deserve the same right to disengage. Estrangement sucks but it's necessary for so many people.
