16 October 1913: LIGHTING OF THE PUBLIC CLOCK A letter was read at the Town Council meeting from the manager of the Cullen District Gas Company with regard to the lighting of the public clock, in which he intimated that the Gas Company were prepared to fit up the clock with the necessary gas burners

12 October 1897: LARGE TURNIP A turnip is being exhibited in Mr J W Stuart's shop which weighs 12-and-a-half pounds. It belongs to Dale's hybrid variety, and was grown by Mr Fortune, Barnyards of Cullen House. #OnThisDay

11 October 1879: CULLEN FISHING ENGAGEMENTS Several fish curers from Fraserburgh have been busy within the last few days in making engagements for next season's herring fishing. The terms range from £33 to as high as £45, with the usual perquisites and £1 per cran. #OnThisDay
He was to stretch a point in their favour, but it was not to be taken as a general rule because if there were more cases of this kind from Cullen the penalties would be much higher. He imposed a fine of £5 on each, which was paid. #OnThisDay
The Sheriff said he quite realised the tremendous difficulties under which they were working and the difficulty of making a living at all, but it was his duty to see the law was obeyed. The penalty which could be imposed for an offence like this was £100.
There was no doubt the men were at fault in coming within the line, but it was a case of sheer desperation. They had been fishing outwith the limit, but had got more or less nothing.
10 October 1935: SEINE-NET FISHING WITHIN LIMIT OFF PORTKNOCKIE Two Cullen fishermen, Geo. Gardiner, Victoria Street , skipper, Procure,and Joseph Mowat, Seatown, skipper of the motor boat Quest, were each fined £5 for seine-net fishing in the Moray Firth within the three-mile limit off Portknockie.
