Hello from the brand new, and quite stylish, #Amtrak 🇺🇸 #NextGen #Acela on its way from DC to NYC today. First stop: the train’s #CafeCar #DiningCar with quite a choice of food and drinks for purchase from a lovely steward.

Guten Morgen aus Freistadt! Nach einem kleinen Frühstück im @diningcar.at des ICE 94 geht es (wieder einmal) Richtung Tschechien. Am Weg gibt es heute diesmal aber einen längeren Halt in Freistadt, da ich bis jetzt hier immer nur mit dem Zug oder dem Bus auf Durchreise war. Schön hier!

Eine Zimtschnecke und eine Tasse Kaffee auf dem Tisch eines DB-Speisewagens, eine Tischlampe ist am Fenster zu sehen, draußen ist es noch dunkel.

Der Hauptplatz von Freistadt, im Hintergrund die Stadtpfarrkirche.

Good Morning from the #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 #InterCityNotte from #Sicily to #Milan. Breakfast ist served in the sleeper cabin at dawn as we pass the Cinque Terre hilltop villages. What beautiful day at the Riviera di Levante. No opening windows on the train, yet last night’s rain did some good cleaning.

Der Zug hat auch so etwas wie einen @diningcar.at - es gibt u.a. guten Kaffee.
Ausserdem Beschallung mit Musik und Zigarettenrauch...
Bezahlen kann man in Algerien nur mit algerischen Dinar, ab der Grenze dann nur mit tunesischen Dinar.

Travelling by train between #Sicily 🇮🇹 and mainland #Italy includes a #ferry crossing, one of the highlights of the trip. The carriages are loaded on the ship. During the sailing, passengers can enjoy some fresh air on the upper decks and try out the famous #Arancini from the ship’s buffet.

Leaving #Sicily 🇮🇹 for northern #Italy on this #InterCityNotte, a genuine “cross-country” long distance sleeper service. About 22 hours, if one travels all the way from either #Siracusa or #Palermo through to #Milan.
Settling into the sleeper cabin, which is still in daytime “sofa” configuration.

We did it: Nachtzug in Afrika, um umgerechnet 7,5 Euro im 4er Liegewagen von Algier nach Annaba.
Inkl 3,5h Abgangsverspätung und 5h Ankunftsverspätung. Hier hat man halt viel Zeit 😎🇩🇿

#Bahnzeit in Frankfurt (M) Hbf. Und #Bierzeit und #Weinzeit im ICE 927 der @deutschebahn.com nach Passau. Der Zug zwar 30 Minuten verspätet und im @diningcar.at @speisewagen.com wegen defekter Spülmaschine kein Geschirr. Dafür sehr freundlicher Service und gutes Essen.

Timetable 2026: Seems the Munich/Budapest/Prague-Krakow-Warsaw sleeper train will have separate portions for Warsaw and for Krakow & Przemysl. Theoretically good - but a significant downside is that Prague-Warsaw gets the sleeping-car, Prague-Krakow becomes couchettes-only.

Kurztransit durchs Ländle...
Theoretisch wäre für unser heutiges Ziel auch eine Abfahrt heute früh in Wien ausreichend gewesen, aber an einem 20min-Anschluss in Frankfurt wollte ich nicht die ganze Reisekette aufhängen.
