Stil not sure what I think of it! But at least it will be uniform across the country.
When is a train a tram, and when is a tram a train? This question crossed my mind whilst travelling to Arosa the other day. This is undoubtedly a train, but the initial journey takes place entirely along the streets of Chur before climbing up into the mountains.
Today's moving restaurant is the bar car on the IC3 from Chur to Zürich. Thai green curry and a weissbier. @diningcar.at is there anything better than having a beer on a train?

Yes; a beer on a train with stunning scenery!
In usual Swiss fashion, as the train arrives, the bus waits to depart. Taktfahrplan integration at its finest.
At Zweisimmen we slowly run through a gauge changer, which increases the width of our wheel-base from metre to standard gauge.
A real treat to be able to travel over one of Switzerland's most interesting and picturesque railways: the Golden Pass Express from Montreux to Interlaken Ost.

"15 years ago, Polish workers came here to find opportunity. Now Poland is growing twice as fast as we are," says Kemi Badenoch.

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?
May I ask why an advance ticket was not right for you? It likely would have been half the price.

And he’s back!!

Sunday isn’t Sunday without Stewart Lee. We were so thrilled at @thenerve.news that Stewart came with us.

His satirical columns for the Observer were some of our most-read content: funny, surreal, angry true. Essential weekend reading.

I've taken a small swiss army knife on Eurostar plenty of times. Even kept it in my pockets through the metal detectors at Gare du Nord once, and the border guard just laughed.
At the same time, the fact that a purely diesel class is so widely used just goes to show how poor our rate of electrification has been since the 1960s. It simply isn't viable to invest in new build electric traction.
Lovely way to pay tribute to the 65th anniversary of what is arguably the UKs most important locomotive class. Freight, passenger, RHTT and test trains, the #class37 has done it all, and continues to do so 65 years later. This is 37501 working the 11.10 from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster.
Remind me what is the point of LUMO again?
That's a shame, but understandable. It's a lovely scenic journey! I took that route earlier this year on the Istria sleeper train from Budapest.
When the new route to Koper opens, will the classic line remain open for passenger trains, or is it being closed?
For someone who has no idea about these things, what's Great Western about it?
Indeed, although I have my doubts if the dining car will be open. I certainly hope so. Certainly an interesting composition over the Semmering, and with an 1144 no less.
Always a pleasant experience in those restaurant cars. Looks like the stock, including the Pano car, will be used on a Graz to Wien IC from December, returning in the morning. Worth checking out next year!

Nice to see my employer, LNER, sponsoring the Leeds Beryl cycle hire scheme. Two sustainable modes of transport coming together 🤝
As much as this is excellent news, clearly a lot of the work was done prior to 2020.

Last night's book launch for Lines of Power. Another use of my German v Uk graph. Flicking through this morning am drawn to the conclusion - a fervent hope is that the opportunity for a rolling programme of electrification does not slip from view once again.
and yet every time I've tried to travel on the Paris to Vienna it's been sold out!
Any idea what routes they will work please? Or even better which services?
Back in England, with our stop-start approach, skills are lost with every pause. Roughly 4,300 jobs will be lost thanks to the recently announced MML pause. This means that when we decide to restart the project, the workforce just won't exist which will lead to a much higher price per KM.
An electrified railway is, and will continue to be, the most efficient railway. Scotland is continuing its rolling program of electrification, making rail greener and quicker, and importantly investing in a skilled workforce who have driven down the cost per KM from £2.7m to £2m.
