My guess is its because hockey has the tighest cap and therefore the tax loopholes can present more of an advantage. Its harder to outbid the no-tax states in hockey than in other sports
Tip for hockey media folks claiming to have even a shred of dignity left: Instead of asking US players what they think of Canadian fans booing their anthem, ask them how they feel about their president repeatedly suggesting that Canada should cease to even fucking exist. Try that just once.
