Lastly minimal character arcs probably can't change the main protagonist. The players have identified with the protagonist because he's always been a stand in. Master Chief being the prime example. Id caveat by saying mainline games and not spin offs for all of these ideas.

Okay main points being, a series called sonic the hedgehog without sonic going forward isn't going to survive. Character is part of the identity.

If you realize a character arc for the player character you probably can change the protagonist and keep the series going forward.

Resistance was one series that didn't really survive past its main trilogy. I don't hear clamoring for its remakes either. I don't think it was it's protagonist switch from games two to three, however but does for the category.

One of the things that needed to be said on the discussion when this hit the pod was naming. If the character is in the name of the franchise, it's probably not going to work. Jak and Daxter without Jak was just Daxter after all.

Problem is I don't know who fills those shoes. Anyone can do it, a lot of people can do it, see social media. But having the wide reaching platform is the hard part. How Rogan got his reach should also be studied.

Joe Rogan is entertainment. A pod cast of three hours isn't something you sit down and consume like a lecture. It's background noise that repeats sound bites that get absorbed because of the repetition. I think the antithesis of Joe Rogan was George Carlin.
