Jane was always my idol, and her passing deeply saddens me.
I remember rewatching documentaries about her life, always struck by her kindness. What impressed me most was her sense of calm, something that seemed to sustain her as she pursued a rewarding life dedicated to activism.

Increasing tree growth could offset disturbance costs in northern Europe, but in southern Europe overall forest value is decreasing under moderate and severe climate change. Our results highlight that climate change adaptation in forestry is not only an ecological but also an economic imperative!

Using a unique long-term field experiment, we show that chronic (20 years!) drought reduces ecosystem CO2 uptake and persistently shifts soil fungal and bacterial communities, but that shifts in plant communities determine ecosystem CO2 fluxes. 🧵
