Diamond Age Data Science
@diamondage.bsky.social
Scientist founded and led computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics of all kinds for life sciences, from discovery to the clinic.
At #ISMB2025, @eleanorahowe.bsky.social , PhD shared initial findings from the GAFOS global survey on how these data resources are used—and what’s at stake if they vanish. Check out findings from the GAFOS global survey on how these data resources are used.

We can't agree with you more!
Looking at bioinformaticians’ profiles these days, you'd think everyone has decades of experience in cutting-edge single-cell and AI-driven bioinformatics. But something’s missing… 👇

I'm getting lots of inquiries these days about finding a compbio job. This is the worst job market I've seen or heard of, and possibly the worst market since Bioinformatics became a field of its own.

I recently finished a sculpture of the Ras protein. Mutations in Ras are found in many cancers and cause Ras to be stuck in an “on” state. The sculpture shows the Ras protein, GDP nucleotide (first molecule) and the Ras-targeted drug sotorasib (second). Made from bronze, steel and copper. #SciArt

Data visualization is used in two ways in data analysis:

1) Communicating data insights.
2) Guiding analysis and spotting data issues.

While modern courses and books focus on the first, it's the second - exploratory data analysis - that is more important and harder to teach.
