Subtitles: on or off?

For me, I need them OFF! I’m too busy reading (hello, I can’t resist reading) to catch all the action and subtext. Sometimes what isn’t said is more important than what is. If I’m reading subtitles I may miss that.

But I chose to sit on the changes while I wait for this round of queries to pan out. Then, I learn through several sources that dreams are a bad opener. I’d already changed that, but too little too late. Right? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Third rounds the charm! 🤞🏻

Mostly crickets. I start getting the sinking feeling my opening pages aren’t shining like I want them to. I revise again, open in action, get to the meet-cute faster, but what was done was done (I’m disheartened because there are agents in that second batch that are dream agents..



Turns out, querying is a learning process. First batch, all but three form rejections (3 CNRs). One actually flagged my word count (108k!!) as the likely culprit. I spent two months trimming and tweaking, finally getting it down to 97k. Round two of queries go out, some fast rejections…
