If I cook for you, it means to me you are family and that by giving you food, I am nourishing both your stomach and your heart. At least, that is my intent. I love loud girls. I can't stand when girls are quiet, shy, and inhibited by what they think society wants from them. I grew up like that, constantly wondering who I was supposed to be, instead of knowing who I wanted to be. Until fifteen years ago, it didn't actually occur to me to look in the mirror and ask myself who I wanted to be.

I've said before that the term "Trauma-Informed" is an umbrella term that doesn't really explain what you are informed about. Lots of people say it, but then when you push and explain that you have been tortured, they don't fully grasp the idea, because most people living today have no concept of what the word "Torture" actually means. I mean, drugged for days on end, out of my mind, to the point that I was a willing participant in my rape,s not only because it was the only way to survive, but because, as I said, I was drugged out of my mind by grown-ass men who knew better.

I was fourteen. I have no idea how I got to that house, or why I was there, but I distinctly remember him. W. He was tall with long black hair and a trucker's hat. I remember the smell, weed, beer, and something I couldn't identify cooking in the kitchen beyond the living room entrance. There were half a dozen kids there, a couple of girls.

It's been NINE years since I was abused, traumatized, and hurt after decades of the same. Nine years out of 42 of freedom, it's not much but its' mine and you can't have it.

I don't think even doctors are fully aware that people are not "Born" with mental health issues. We are taught to have mental health issues by witnessing the behavioural patterns of those around us. From what I am able to remember, I was mostly a happy child until I wasn't. And the reason I wasn't was that I didn't have the words to say "The bad men hurt me..." and no one, and I mean -no one- asked.
