Please read my dear and brilliant friend Sandra's new story, "Sadness of Gaza."

Sandra has endured more horror in the past week than most of us will in our entire lives. Even $5 can bring some much needed light into her life: her fundraising link is in my bio 🙏 #Sacramento #Sac4Sandra #Poem (1/2)
Sadness of Gaza
by Samar Adnan Muhammed Kamil

Note for screen readers: Pages 1 through 4 contain the English translation of this story. Pages 5 and 6 (in the next tweet) are the original Arabic version.

In Gaza, a girl sits crying on a broken road.

Is she myself or my double?

She stares ahead blankly at rooms without ceilings or walls, theaters empty of meaning but heavy with loss.

She was left all alone for unscrupulous scavengers. She weeps quietly. At intervals she howls in pain, grief, or need. None offer solace or claim her as kin.

She sees me and beckons. With labored breath, she begs me to find her mother, father, and brothers. Her memory doesn't disclose where they went.

The road lies between tangles of thorns. A wall looms above it. Outside of the wall, monsters rule the land, sea, and sky. PAGE 2 of 6

She walks north on the road until the world spins around her. Her soul petitions for release but she rejects it. Nearby, a blind old woman trembles in wordless fear.

Pan-Arabism is a myth, the girl thinks. It died long ago with the dream of an Ummah. We propped up its corpse with irrational hope.

A murmur from the west brings memories of freedom: fresh air, shining waves, and soft golden sands. Perhaps the sea holds the key to restoring the past.

She runs there and cries, "Please deliver my people," but the sea cuts her short: "Did you not hear me rage and sigh? I'm trapped here like you are. You're on your own, precious girl."

She runs to the south and arrives at iron gates. PAGE 3 of 6

Others precede her: a new amputee, an unemployed worker, a woman sick with tuberculosis, a young man of faith, a medical student whose studies were interrupted, a young girl who dreams of sunrise.

She goes to the front. Troops block the exit. They are devoid of all mercy. They view her with contempt and disgust.

The girl's heart wildly seizes and pounds. Shame blurs her vision. Her soul cries in anguish:

"O Silent Ones who forget our grandfathers were brothers; who forget we descend from one mother and father; who left us helpless and bleeding behind you;

"O Silent Ones who used to join in songs of pan-Arabism and unity and homeland;

"We used to be family, convened by sacred command, your hands joined with ours until death, our tears intermingled as one. PAGE 4 of 6

"We were a pride of lions, fighters defending one people, delegations assembled in common cause. You forget the strength that we had, the beauty our martyrs bequeathed us.

"O Silent Ones, you lock us away with no food, water, or medicine. Divided, our blood thins to nothing.

"Your pity demeans us. Your pieties wound us. Your public pronouncements are bullets, pretty diamonds shot into our back.

"You are the ones who broke your pledge. You are the ones who forgot our bond.

"You are my brothers. You are my family. And you forgot Gaza at the Rafah Crossing."

I haven't received any donations for five days 💔

I am a mother from Gaza, and my sons don't eat anything... There is no bread, no food, not even something simple to feed them.

The weather is cold, and life is difficult in a tent that does not protect from wind or hunger.💔

Stancil needs to explain how his views on the internet’s role in the 2024 election are any different from Van Jones’ or Bluesky management’s (he never will because he, too, thinks the Palestinian victims of the U.S.-Zionist genocide received too much sympathy and attention during the campaign)

Stancil is Exhibit A of why Obama shouldn’t have repealed the Smith-Mundt Act

those core values aren’t just magically going to implant themselves in Americans’ heads, we have to argue for them. but a lot of people have found there’s more social cachet in sneering at them instead. it’s disgusting

Imagine taking money to reassure AIPAC politicians they didn’t lose the presidency because of it and won’t suffer electoral consequences for supporting genocide in the future

Genocide tied with inflation for the #1 reason 2020 Biden voters in swing states voted 3rd party in 2024. 1/3 of 2020 Biden voters who voted 3rd party or didn’t vote said they would have been more likely to vote Harris if she’d promised an arms embargo

…which is strange, because Stancil definitely was obsessed about it as a factor in 2023 and 2024, to the extent that he advocated for TikTok crackdowns to prevent information about the genocide from spreading

Meet Will Stancil in November 2023 and March 2024.

November 2023: “on Gaza specifically, social media, particularly TikTok, is affecting youth sentiment”
Tweets, November 26, 2023:

Osita Nwanevu: “I am not arguing that social media does not matter in American politics. I am suggesting that it is unfounded to imply, as you often do, that the posts of leftist writers and activists, particularly regarding Gaza, are going to swing the election to Donald Trump.”

Stancil: “What I've argued is two things: that the consensus formed on social media (of which we are part) influences real-world politics (giving us an obligation to not just lie constantly, which many do). And second, on Gaza specifically, social media, particularly TikTok, is affecting youth sentiment.” Will Stancil tweets:

Stancil, June 23, 2022: “Young people quite obviously have strong negative feelings about Biden that aren't being driven by policy, but something else (it's social media and TikTok, you dopes - the kids are absorbing nonstop negative messages about Biden 24/7 through social media and TikTok).”

Stancil, March 8, 2024 (quote tweeting the preceding tweet): “I got ratioed to hell and back for saying TikTok was poisoning the political views of the young years ago, but it was right then and has only gotten more right over time”

Stancil: “You know how it's TikTok? Because you'll have politically disengaged people in your life simultaneously adopting almost identical views about specific topics (Biden, student debt, Gaza, whatever) and there's only one place they could possibly have all gotten it”

Stancil is a (paid?) genocide denier, so he will never consider genocide as a decisive factor in democrats’ 2024 election loss

If Biden lied to commit genocide. Why don’t you think he’d lie about wanting to pass Build Back Better? (THREAD)

bsky.app/profile/devi...
devingtieme.bsky.social
Biden decoupled the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law from Build Back Better then used Manchin as a scapegoat for not passing Build Back Better. Just like he used the parliamentarian as a scapegoat for not increasing the minimum wage
Transcript of CNN interview with Ayanna Pressley, December 19, 2021:

REP. PRESSLEY: This is about Joe Manchin, obstructing the President’s agenda, obstructing the people’s agenda. You know, torpedoing our opportunity to advance unprecedented advancements, to address the hurt that this pandemic-induced recession has caused, and to get this pandemic under control.

So if he’s serious about inflation, if he’s serious about the pandemic, if he’s serious about child poverty, then we need to advance the Build Back Better Act so that we can in fact build back better. This is 85% of the President’s agenda, which is still being left on the table.

Jake, that was not a vote that I took lightly, but I had great concerns, and I take no joy in those fears playing out in real time. That by decoupling these bills that we would cede all of our leverage, and that had everything to do with my credible concerns based on lived experience with Senator Manchin changing the goalposts continually.

Biden also decoupled the Medicaid disenrollment pause from the COVID emergency declaration, causing 25 million to lose Medicaid. Both occurred because Biden wanted to force people back into hazardous workplaces

bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefing-roo...
And that’s one of the most — that’s the most jobs in any calendar year by any president in history. How? How? How did that happen?

Well, the American Rescue Plan got the economy off its back and moving again, back on its feet, getting over 20 — 200 million Americans fully vaccinated; got people out of their homes and back to work, even in the face of wave after wave of COVID.

We got schools open. We got booster shots. We brought down the poverty rate and went from 20 million people on unemployment rolls a year ago to under 2 million on the unemployment rolls today.

*after scoring on ourselves repeatedly* Well we obviously can't count on our fair-weather so-called fans to cheer for anything. The only way out of this hole is to find some new ways to score on ourselves; we need those opposing fans even more than before.

oh I suppose YOU have a better idea

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
